Stayin' ahead of the wave
The wave of learning is moving like a tsunami. So is the wave of assessments. Our fourth graders just completed the Science SBA (state test). We don't know how they did yet, but I want to thank all of the parents for the 100% attendance on test day. Just having all the kids here saved hours of instructional time for our teachers because they didn't have to re-administer the assessment. So "Thank you" again.
The new AMP is coming up next week. It is an online assessment that has an "open window" for an entire month. What that means to parents is your child's teacher will send home information about when the assessment will take place. If a student is absent during that time, they will be able to make it up almost any day. This also means that the state does not allow "opt out" for students. That being said, a parent can still submit a note indicating "parent refusal" if that parent does not want their student to be assessed. The result of the parent refusal is the student's assessment will be marked "parent refusal" and the score for the student will be issued as a zero. My hopes are every student will be assessed but I wanted you to know there is an option if you, as a parent, feel you want to exclude your student from the assessment, there is a way for that to be facilitated.
If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call or stop by.
Thank you.
