Fluency
Just wanted to quickly say a couple things about the weekly fluency passages your child will be bringing home. If your child ever gets frustrated with this please stop the timer!!! I go back and forth with this, but because the other teachers do it, I want to stay with the group! It's okay to start off reading it chorally and by the end of the week have them try to read it by themselves. As parents we are constantly picking our battles---this is not the battle I would choose if there is just one of those nights :) I WOULD, however, always try to get in those 20 minutes of reading!!!!!
Interesting Article
I love the website, reading rockets. Came across this article and wanted to share!
Assembly
We had a great time with our back to school assembly as well as the Great Green Run and Roll kick off!
Last week we worked a lot with sequencing of events and the importance of being able to read, write, and talk about things in order! We also learned the two parts to a sentence, the predicate and the subject. It was fun taking simple sentences and making them super!
A Peek at this Week
Spelling
I'm hoping by next week to get a challenge list going! The challenge list will be 12 words that follow the same spelling pattern but more challenging. Everyone will always do the 2 review words as well as the 2 challenge words.
Math- Number Facts with Number Rack
The main objectives we will be learning about this week are reinforcing number facts up to 10 and introduce number facts up to 20. The number rack is the main mathematical model that we will be using in these lessons this week. They will be making their own number racks to help them examine number relationships, combinations, and addition and subtraction facts.
