Fall Family Picnic & Pre-Registration
Have you pre-registered for the Fall Family Picnic on Friday? If not, please follow this link Family Picnic Pre-Registration, or cut and paste the following into your browser: http://classroom.leanderisd.org/default.aspx?SamVillarreal/FallFamilyPicnic prior to noon on Thursday. If you have, thank you! Pre-registering is a win-win for all!
This is always a fun event with family and friends. Please join us during your child's regular lunch time for a family and friends picnic. You are welcome to bring a blanket or camp chair for lunch in the courtyard.
Write-A-Check PTA Fundraiser
The PTA Fundraiser has been going strong this week, thanks to your generosity! As of yesterday, kindergarten was in the lead with $1,203.00 donated with 2nd grade close behind. I wonder if kindergarten held the lead today? Be watching for updates from the PTA!
The fundraiser will continue to run throughout the week! A table will be set up in the lobby each morning before school and throughout the picnic lunch on Friday for students to drop off their checks or cash to support Cypress PTA. This fundraiser is in lieu of asking families to sell products to raise funds. If we received a $40 donation for every child we would surpass our goal. We ask you to consider making a donation to help support our PTA. Thank you for your amazing support! Cypress Fundraising Letter
If finding a checkbook seems cumbersome, we offer a different solution. You can make your donation online through our website and receive your tax deductible receipt upon donating. Cypress PTA Website: Store Tab, or go to www.cypress.my-pta.org and select the Store tab.

Destination Imagination
It's time for our DI teams to start forming! What is DI you ask??
What is Destination ImagiNation? Destination ImagiNation is an extracurricular, school-sponsored program that fosters creativity and team-based problem-solving skills and life skills for students. Leander ISD DI is open to all students in third through twelfth grades. The goal of Destination ImagiNation is to cultivate the creative problem solving process and make it an unconscious part of students’ everyday lives.
Teams showcase their solutions at a DI Regional Tournament on February 17, 2018 at Cedar Ridge High School in Round Rock ISD and may advance to state and international competitions later in the spring. Teams participate in both the Team Challenge and Instant Challenge portions of the competition. The “Team Challenge” solution is developed by the team over a 5-7 month period. The team designs and creates, without adult assistance, all props, costumes and other artistic technical elements necessary to bring the presentation to life. But the team's solution is not complete until they receive the final improv prop from the judges just before their presentation!
Instant Challenges are designed to teach students how to think quickly, creatively and strategically. At competition the team is given an Instant Challenge they have not seen before. For example, a team may be asked to tell the judge about a mouse’s happiest day, create a team story using a given set of items, manipulate materials to build a structure, or develop a non-verbal communication system with team members to complete a given task. Team members have a few minutes to think and develop strategy and a brief period of time to respond to the challenge. Both the Team Challenges and Instant Challenges provide and promote opportunities to develop life-long skills that are essential in our ever-changing world.
