Thank you all for your partnership with this! The Furniture Refresh Team were extremely grateful for the opportunity to work without interruption. We recognize Thursday was a bit of a disruption to the normal routine, but we knew it would be well worth it! I've heard stories of students walking into classrooms with an expression of awe and gratitude. One parent stated that her daughter could not stop talking about the new furniture on Friday evening. These stories make my heart glad.
On rainy mornings classroom doors open at 7:45a. If you drop your 1st-5th grade student off between 7:30a-7:45a, they are to go to the Auditorium and wait to be dismissed to class. TK/K parents/caregivers may take their student directly to class at 7:45a. At dismissal, all students waiting for their parents/caregivers will be sent to the Auditorium.
Recently, I've learned that parents are approaching other students and/or parents to address behavior issues. Please refrain from addressing other students and/or caregivers on campus. At Bixby we value maintaining all our students safe. When parents attempt to address matters, more often than not, things end negatively, and this can lead to an unsafe environment. Any questions regarding behavior are to be directed to the Principal's Office.
Please remember that Bixby is a pet-free school. The only kind of dogs allowed on campus are certified service dogs (identified by a vest). Bixby appreciates your partnership in maintaining Bixby safe by keeping your dogs off campus.
We've noticed many families dropping their students off in front of the Auditorium. Please use the Valet Drop-off Zone for drop offs instead of the Long Beach Transit bus stop. These are some things we have noticed in correlation to initializing a Valet Drop-Off system:
- Parking was easier for our families that need to park for hand-to-hand drop off.
- Our Crossing Guard has noticed that traffic has been lighter on Stearns Street.
- More students are on time to their classrooms.
- Students are greeted with a warm welcome.
- The campus is cleared by 8:00am, allowing teachers to begin their instruction.
- The gates are secured by 8:00am.
I want to send a special shout-out to the parents and guardians who dedicated a small, but hugely important portion of their mornings to support with the Valet Drop-Off. Your support directly contributed to the outcomes listed above. If you have 15 minutes to spare in making the same kind of impact, you may sign up here. We need the most help from 7:45a-8:00a.
CORE Survey Opens February 6 for Students and Parents
All LBUSD parents/guardians will be invited to complete the annual CORE Survey from February 6 through March 17. Last year, 18% of Bixby families completed the CORE Survey. This year, we're reaching for a 50% completion rate. Currently, Bixby's completion rate for the 22/23 school year is at 15%. To access the CORE Family Survey:
- Go to www.lbschools.net >
- Parents > CORE Family Survey >
- Input the code provided to you via email (received every Thursday morning at 6am)
If you are having trouble accessing the survey, please stop by or call the office on Tuesdays or Thursdays and our friendly office staff will gladly help you.
