Welcome to the Marvelous World of 8th Grade

Welcome Parents!

8th grade is booming and beaming with some of the brightest students here at Allen. We are delighted to have the opportunity to teach your child this year. We are looking forward to an exciting year of academic challenges and growth.

In addition to teaching you the curriculum this year, our main goal is to prepare your child in every way possible for your high school years! This year will be stimulating and very rewarding as your scholar finishes their time at Allen and look forward to your years in high school.

Upcoming Events

Math Updates

In 8th Grade Math we are learning all about real numbers. We have been learning how to classify them, write them in scientific notation, estimate with perfect squares and change repeating decimals to fractions. All students have already completed their first common assessment on this unit and we are preparing them for the Unit Assessment on October 1st. To measure their understanding of this unit ask them: How to change a repeating decimal to a fraction? They should be able to tell you all about it.

ELA Updates

In ELA, we have been discovering the wild world of Literature. Our first two units we have delved into stories filled with suspense and cliff-hanger endings. Our Unit 2 common assessment will be October 2. We will start Research Writing as our third unit of the year.

Please be sure to encourage your child to attend the Carolina Theatre field trip, all of these stories being we've read in class will be performed!

There is an app for that!

Parents need school supplies too, and the new Guilford County Schools app gives parents the tools they need to help their child succeed, all in one place. The app lets parents access their child's grades, school menus, upcoming events and other information, and it's available free.

The new app, which can be found by searching for “Guilford County Schools” through Google Play or the App Store, is just one more way parents can stay up to date with news from their child's school. Users can select which schools they wish to follow, subscribe to news and social media alerts, pay for meals, add events to their mobile calendars and even follow their favorite high school sports teams, all in one place. They can also access a staff directory and download eBooks through the district's eBook shelf.
