Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast
September 16, 2018
A Message from the Director
You may have already heard the news, but Collegiate Academy now has THREE National Merit Semi Finalist from the class of 2019! Congratulations to Daniel Azbell, Victoria Monson and Reuben Rosenberg for all of their hard work and for this amazing achievement!
Selection is based on the students' scores on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). GCISD's National Merit Semifinalists are part of an elite group of students representing fewer than one percent of U.S. high school seniors who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. These academically talented students have the opportunity to continue in the program and compete for scholarships that will be offered next spring.
Daniel Azbell is the son of Michael and Jennifer Azbell.
He plans to attend University of Texas at Austin or Colorado School of Mines, majoring in mechanical or electrical engineering.
Victoria Monson is the daughter of Erik and Lilly Monson.
Victoria plans to attend Texas Tech University or University of North Texas, majoring in apparel design to one day be a clothing designer.
Reuben Rosenberg is the son of Alan Rosenberg and Cristina Rosenberg.
Reuben plans to attend University of Texas at Austin or Massachusetts Institute of Technology, majoring in engineering.
Again, job well done Daniel, Victoria and Reuben! We are so proud of you!
Last Monday night, we held our annual Open House for all Phoenix parents with a Sophomore/Junior and Senior Parent Meeting! Thank you for all that came to celebrate what we do at Collegiate Academy!
This year, as I have said before, we do not have to do anything new, we just have to do it better. One area we want to improve on is parent involvement. We asked parents at Open House to complete a survey and we received some ideas for improvement and acknowledgments for what we are doing well! If you were not at Open House or did not get the survey, here is the link to the google survey. CA English Parent Survey
Please fill it out and submit! We want to include everyone’s voice in our search for excellence, equity, and empowerment for all students!
Great things are happening at Collegiate Academy, please join us as we continue to work together to create the BEST school in Texas or maybe the world: we should always dream BIG!
Phoenix ON!
Together we will make a difference!

Hurst-Euless-Bedford COLLEGE FAIR
Students and Families are invited to HEB ISD College Fair on Monday, September 17, 2018.
The HEB ISD Professional School Counselors will host their annual College Fair on Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Hurst Conference Center (1601 Campus Drive, Hurst, TX 76053) from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Over 100 colleges and universities will be represented at the fair. Informational sessions about financial aid will also be presented including information on FAFSA. All students and parents are encouraged and welcome to attend this free event.
We recommend that students register online at www.gotocollegefairs.com to complete a student profile (free of charge) and receive a bar code (either printed or sent to a smart phone). The barcode can be scanned by the college representatives at the fair, which will save you time instead of filling out student information cards.
On that website, students need to register for: TACRAO, Dallas II College Fairs, 9/17/2017 - 9/22/2018
(This step can be confusing, because there is nothing on the website that specifically states HEB ISD.) Please park in parking designated for the Hurst Conference Center. Do NOT park across the street in the bank parking lots, as they will ticket unauthorized vehicles!

FAFSA & Final Aid Information:
Students, BEFORE you can apply for Federal Student Aid, the student AND the parent MUST have a FSA ID. Please request that now as it can take a few weeks to get your FSA ID. From the FAFSA Website (https://fafsa.ed.gov): It is very important that you and your parent create and use your own FSA IDs. The FSA ID acts as a legal signature and should not be shared. Letting someone else create your FSA ID is not allowed and can create problems and delays with your financial aid. For more information or to create your own FSA ID, go to StudentAid.gov/fsaid. If your parent does not have a Social Security Number, he or she will not be able to get an FSA ID through the online process. In that case your parent will print, sign, and mail in a paper signature page.

Join Phi Theta Kappa!
Invitations have recently been sent to students who qualify to join the Phi Tau chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa college honor society. PTK is the international honor society of two-year college students and provides members with many valuable opportunities, such as scholarships, leadership skill development, and the ability to interact with a diverse student community.
The Phi Tau chapter is based on the Tarrant County College Northeast campus. To qualify for membership, students must have a 3.5 GPA at minimum for their most recent 12 credit hours completed at TCC with a 3.0 or higher overall. For students who choose to join, our optional induction ceremony will take place on October 25 at TCC’s Center Corner at 6:00pm. PTK will induct more members each semester, so those who do not currently meet the requirements may still join in the future.
PTK members have the opportunity to participate in a variety of events, including member and officer meetings. In addition, starting October 1, a PTK club will meet on Mondays every other week during WYN to provide an additional time for students to gather and participate. I highly encourage all eligible students to join and reap the benefits.
Please contact me for any questions regarding scholarships, requirements, meetings, or anything else. I hope to see many new students getting involved this semester!

Mensaje de la Directora
Padres y Estudiantes,
Phoenix ON!
¡Juntos haremos la diferencia!

Informacion de Nuestra Casa Abierta
¡Únete a Phi Theta Kappa!
