SCARECROW FESTIVAL 2023
We are excited to invite you to participate in the 1st Annual Kimmel Scarecrow Festival at Kimmel Orchard & Vineyard. To enter a scarecrow, fill in the REGISTRATION FORM and submit it by email to info@kimmelorchard.org. Registration Fee is $25 for each Scarecrow.
The Scarecrow Festival will kick off on October 14th with a one-day-only "Bring Your Own" screen printing event in cooperation with the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts. The KHN Center will screen print the Scarecrow Festival logo (in Black) on your shirt, sweatshirt, towel, apron, bag, or other small item.
Families, community groups, churches, senior centers, retirement communities, schools, school groups, businesses, corporations, and individuals are all encouraged to use their creativity to design a family-friendly scarecrow that will be displayed in our Scarecrow Field.

Post photos of your scarecrow on our Facebook event page and tag us to enter your scarecrow to win! (Get your entry fee back and win a Kimmel prize package with a value of $75)

Most Original/Creative Scarecrow - Our staff will vote on a winner.
Guest Favorite Scarecrow - Guests will like photos of your scarecrows on our Facebook page to cast their votes. The scarecrow with the most likes will win this category.

We will provide:
- T-Post with 5-foot PVC Cover
- PVC T-connector with 18-inch arms and 12-inch top post for securing the head
- Each scarecrow pole will have a 40-pound bale of straw provided for stuffing or decoration

The 2024 Nebraska 4-H Dog Judges Training will be held in Lincoln in the Animal Science Complex on East Campus on Saturday, January 20th. New judges are always needed. If you are a parent or someone who wants to help our 4H youth with the dog project, please consider taking the training. This is also a good opportunity for local dog project leaders and older 4-H members to observe the training and better understand how they will be judged at the Nebraska State Fair 4-H Dog Show and local county fairs. Participants will be trained in showmanship and obedience. Participants must be 19 years old and up to be listed as a 4-H Dog Judge who is trained in showmanship and obedience. The training will include hands-on and classroom sessions.
This training will likely be best suited for youth 14-18 years old regarding learning materials.
Estimated Time Frame: 9 am-4 pm (Lunch is included)

Early Bird Registration (Now to December 15th, 2023): $25
Registration (December 16th to January 20th, 2023): $35

*No Refunds will be given. Checks with insufficient funds will be charged a $25 fee.

If registrations are fewer than 10 participants by January 13th, the training will be canceled due to low participation. All registration fees that have been mailed in will not be deposited/will be shredded. All registered participants will be notified via email.

Shooting Sports Annual Report
The Nebraska 4-H Shooting Sports Committee is requesting information about county instructor's involvement in the 4-H shooting sports program. In order to maintain certification, instructor's MUST complete the annual instructor report. If you are are a shooting sports instructor for Otoe County, complete the form (linked here) before November 4th, 2023.
Trophies, Banner, and SWEATSHIRTS are Available for Pick Up!!!!!

Slowly but surely, the Otoe County Extension website is being updated. Minimal updates will be happening between now & 2024 as the University is moving to a different platform.
