A Message from our Special Education Coordinator, Dana Archuleta

Summer Fun

The temperatures are finally getting warmer and we only have 4 weeks of school left before summer vacation! This school year seems to have flown by. This is also the time of year when parents are asking for “things” they can do, during these summers months, to continue their child’s learning. Below are some simple ideas to continue the learning as well as encouraging/fostering independence.

· Set a daily reading time (20 minutes)

· Read road signs when driving in the car

· Trivia games

· Read maps when traveling

· Practice math facts when in the car or at home

· Real world math problems (If we leave at 8:00 am and it takes us 2 hours to get to our destination, what time will we arrive?)

Practical Life Skills

· Help make dinner

· Help clean the house/laundry

· Do some yard work

We need you!

MAPA Is looking for Committee Chairs for the 2018-2019 school year. Please contact if you or someone you know would be interested.

MAPA is our school's parent organization. Because of MAPA, we do not have to rely on monthly fundraisers- like wrapping paper and chocolates. School-wide functions like Skate Night, Fall Festival, Gratitude Feast, Field Day and the Gala all happen because of MAPA. We do not want to lose out on these events.

Wanted: Parents interested in helping with fundraising for 2018-2019

We are in need of a Chair and Co-chair to organize our fundraising for the 2018-2019 school year. Committee members are also welcome! Funds raised will go towards all grade levels. We have streamlined things quite a bit so that there are only 4 major fundraising events throughout the year, instead of one per month. We have had an incredible community response in donations to these events. The skeleton is in place- we just need parents to take it and run! If you are interested, please contact Ms. Rene at .

We would like to meet with volunteers as soon as possible so that dates can be set and assignments can be given to give the committee a head start for next year. If you have questions, please contact Jenna Beers at 801-695-5864.

MMA Spotlight- Ms. Kacee (Assistant Director)

How did you find out about Montessori Education? I heard Montessori’s name mentioned a few times while I completed the teacher education program at Weber State University. Additionally my supervising teacher during my student teaching was a Montessori educator. In 2010, I was inspired to begin my Montessori teaching career (after 8 years of being a stay-at-home mom) upon seeing the advertisements for the new charter school and meeting our schools’ founder Nancy Lindeman.

How long have you been at MMA? I have been at MMA since the doors opened.

What is your favorite thing about MMA? It’s difficult to choose a favorite thing about MMA. I love our philosophy of putting the child first and our ability to teach in a unique way that supports the whole child (emotional, social and academic needs). Of course, the Montessori materials are amazing as well.

What is your favorite food? I love most food, but my favorite is Sushi.

What is your favorite color? Pink, yellow, and aqua are my favorite colors.

What is your favorite movie? I’m not the type of person who can watch the same movie over and over again, but I do like all kinds of movies. Comedies and action are my favorite.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you? People would be surprised to know that I went to El Salvador and Honduras on my honeymoon and my favorite place to visit is Roatan, Honduras. I hope to someday have a vacation home there.
