Notes from Mrs. Hamp
- On Friday, parent teacher conference sign ups will be sent to you via e-mail. My conferences will be a little different than most this semester due to the visitation/memorial of my grandfather. I will be having my conferences on Wednesday and Thursday (March 16 & 17).
- Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the field trip to Springfield. The memorial for my grandfather is on March 12, in Maryland, and I will be flying out on March 11th. I have a retired 5th grade Castlio teacher taking my place and I know her experience will help the field trip run smoothly. More information about the field trip will be coming home shortly. Since there is going to be a substitute, please remember to bring your photo I.D. when picking up your child.
- Our entire school is doing a service project. We will be making blankets for kids in hospitals and nurseries. I letter went home last week asking for donations. If you could make a monetary donation to help support this service project, that would be greatly appreciated. We have been paired up with a second grade class to work with and create these blankets. Within the next two weeks, we will be pairing up with our buddies and teach them how to tie knots in the blankets. If you would like to donate your time, this Thursday and Friday, they are having a cutting party for adults to help cut slits into the fleece blankets.
I am looking to use devices a little more frequently in class. In order to do that, there are a few free apps that I would like to have your child download onto their device.
- Google docs
- Google forms
- Google classroom
There are currently 2 assignments that your child has to complete in the google classroom account. These are due on Friday.

What are we learning this week?
Math: This week we will be completing our topic of adding and subtracting Mixed Numbers. We will focus on how to subtract mixed numbers as well as solving word problems by drawing a picture with an equation. We will review on Friday and our test will be on Monday of next week.
Writing: We will conclude our rough draft writing of our personal narrative and work on revising and editing our work. We will also rely on our peers to peer edit our work and end the week by typing up our final product. We will focus on dialogue within our writing, descriptive setting, and having detailed characters.
Reading: We will focus our reading this week on understanding matter, solid, liquid, and gases. In our reading we will be able to summarize what we have learned pulling out key details to support the main idea. We will also practice taking notes while we read.
