Literary Magazine

First meeting Oct. 14

1st & 3rd Thursdays of work month / 12:00-12:30 / Rm. 2

Are you one of many pencil-wielding humans who is sitting at a beckoning desk, apprehensively waiting to craft and shape delightful words in hopes of one day becoming the next Lin-Manuel Miranda, Chaucer, or Jacqueline Woodson? If the answer is a curious and amazingly, awe-inspiring, relief-sighing yes; then consider joining Mount Everest Academy’s new literary magazine, Heights. I sincerely hope your eyes are widening as you come to absorb these words and imagine the civilization of creators that we could cultivate with the genius collections of our minds. I believe that together we can create a club that unites all voices. Together, with this magazine, I believe that we can form a place where all people of MEA can share their stories.

For those of you who are new to the school, welcome, and those who do not know me, my name is Jody Huege. I’m a ninth grader, and I, like so many others at MEA, am an avid reader, writer, and artist. This past year, it occurred to me that our school prides itself on creative thinking and wondering minds, and I made it my mission to find a place for students to share their works in a format where the whole school could see them. Heights is the literary magazine that will connect people in MEA’s community through works of writing and art. The club will meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month at noon! During these meetings, we will work on building our website, editing works for the magazine, and organizing our virtual issue. During the year, we hope to produce 3 issues, featuring the incredible works of our talented student body.

I hope you will join us on our journey to new Heights, starting this Thursday, October 14th in Room 2.

We will meet twice a month on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the work month! Month 2's meetings will be on October 5th and 19th in the garden outside room 1. ¡Vamos a divertirnos! Let's have fun!

MEA FOUNDATION

MEA Foundation Update

MEA Foundation has reached our first $1000 for the school year, thank you to all donations! Our biggest support is future fundraising at MEA, starting with a Farmers Market. Help us fund new garden beds to be installed in November. And watch the garden grow.

All parents, students, and staff are members of MEA Foundation! If you want your voice to be heard and to have a say in the foundation programs, priorities, and finances, please contact Principal Browne at cbrowne@sandi.net or the Foundation at info@meafoundation.org.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, MEA Foundation is able to accept your donations, which are 100% tax-deductible, in order to enhance the overall experience of Mt. Everest Academy students. There are several ways you can easily give.

MEA FOUNDATION VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

  • We need a few volunteers for updating our in-kind contact spreadsheet. Can you search the internet or make a phone call to help update 25 to 50 of our contacts?

  • Are you interested in leading/teaching a workshop or extracurricular (art, STEM, engineering, content area, etc.)? This could be a weekly class, one time workshop or series.

  • Are you familiar with accounting softwares? If so, we need some help researching a system to use for the Foundation. Or you can help research a pledge or donation system.

Please send an email to info@meafoundation.org and let us know how you would like to help.
