National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists
The WSD is proud to announce that Mason Neal and Ronan Townes from Timberland High School are Semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Additionally, Jaden Zelidon from Liberty High School and Tanvi Dahuja from Timberland High School are National Merit Commended Students.
The National Merit Scholarship Program awards academically talented high school seniors with over 7,500 scholarships equating to roughly $30 million. Merit Scholars must have exceptional academic ability and show great potential for success in competitive and meticulous college studies. Semifinalists are ranked among the top 1% of all U.S. high school seniors for their scholastic achievement. A semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT/ACT scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.

Important Transportation Update Reminder
As a reminder, students will be required to provide their own masks while riding the school bus. Since the start of the school year, the District has provided more than 50,000 masks to students, and it is important that all students bring and wear a mask on the bus. The WSD Transportation Department’s supply of masks is rapidly dwindling and we ask for your assistance with this matter. Masks are required on all school buses per federal requirements.
The Transportation Department has been asked to notify building administrators when students are not following this federal requirement. The building will attempt to work with students and families to remedy the situation. If a student is not correctly wearing a mask while on the bus, the family will need to make other arrangements.
Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter as we work together to support our students.

2021-2022 COVID-19 Information
The new WSD-modified quarantine process is now in effect. The WSD-modified quarantine allows all close contacts who were exposed in the regular school or bus setting (regardless of mask status) to continue attending school in person. In order to qualify for this modification, students must remain consistently and appropriately masked and symptom-free throughout the duration of their 14-day quarantine period and may not participate in extracurricular activities. If students become symptomatic or do not consistently and appropriately wear a mask, they will be required to quarantine at home for the remainder of the 14 days.
The WSD will continue to participate in contact tracing and provide all relevant information to the St. Charles County Department of Public Health, and the SCCDPH will continue to issue orders of quarantine. While the provision of the WSD-modified quarantine allows for students who were exposed during school to continue attending school during the period of full quarantine, families may still elect to keep their student(s) home during this time period. The decision to attend school during this time would be at the parents’ discretion, and student learning will be supported by the WSD staff, regardless of whether the student chooses to attend in person or learn while at home during this time period. As a reminder, students must remain completely symptom-free and appropriately and consistently wear a well-fitted mask in order to be eligible for the new WSD-modified quarantine. Students who do not meet these criteria must remain at home for the duration of their quarantine period.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students safe and at school.
