GSCS Counselors Monthly Update
November 2022- Sandra Long, Counselor Coordinator
Congratulations to Some of Our Own!
November is a really exciting time for School Counselors. Many of you will be attending the GSCA Conference November 8-10 in Savannah, GA. Get ready to learn and share with other professionals. Take notes from your sessions so you can share ideas and best practices with our counseling team. Tiffiany Simmons, Jenna Sullivan, Wendy Whedon, Danielle Bennett, and Kimberly R-V will be presenting, as well as Brandon Bogues and Nikki Knight. The best way to advocate for your program is to share with others the awesome work you are doing and the successes that you are achieving. Cowan Road Middle School got a shout out at a meeting I was in for having the best social media presence in the system. Credit was given to the counseling team. Thank you all and keep working hard!

Behavior Process & Interventions
Ways to manage behaviors that impact the learning of the student and others is at the top of all our list of priorities right now. I will be reviewing the MTSS behavior process and the roles counselors play in the process on Nov. 4, from 12:30-3:30 in the computer lab in the Parent Services Building. Please make plans to attend. You will have the opportunity to walk through the process with one of your own students. MTSS is the vehicle that provides support to our students. Counselors play a pivotal role in the success of MTSS at your schools.
FAFSA Opens Oct. 1st.
EVERY senior with plans to attend a college or vocational school must complete the FAFSA. Complete it in October to maximize funding opportunities.
Christmas Assistance
Use Spalding Collaborative's Resource guide to link families with available community resources.
No Fee November
Most Georgia colleges and vocational schools waive application fees in November. Encourage seniors to apply to at least one college this month.
