Financial Aid/Scholarships
October 1st was the opening day for Seniors to begin submitting their FAFSA. The Free Application For Student Aid, is the most important thing Seniors can do to get money for college. Seniors can also start searching for and completing scholarship applications. Here is a list of the scholarships our high schools have put together to help students locate scholarship opportunities . Applying is the only way to receive free money for college! The Senior Hub has a scholarship presentation with other scholarship resources. Now is the time to start this process!
Social Media and Mental Health
Many parents are faced with the dilemma of how much time their children should spend on social media. There is evidence that spending too much time on social media will have a negative impact on mental health. Here is an excellent resource to help you navigate this topic.
Volunteers needed!
Your PHSC school counselors would like to offer career information to our students through people in the community sharing information about their careers. Anyone who would like to visit our school and present to our students about their career, should complete this career speaker interest form. The format/process would be similar to the college admissions visits which includes:: scheduling a 30-40 minute presentation in our media center, students register to attend, one counselor is present, teachers are notified. Speakers would be asked to share the following information: Day in the life of the career, training, average starting salary, best things about the career, demand, challenging things about the career, advancement/further training opportunities.

Graduation Ceremony Staff Selection (who hands you your diploma)
Graduation Ceremony Selection Form
For the 2023 graduating class, the PHSC Staff has the opportunity to hand diplomas to graduates that have selected them to do so. Please note: attendance at the Graduation Ceremony IS NOT required for staff; however, many staff members attend regularly because they appreciate the opportunity to celebrate your accomplishment alongside you.
Graduating seniors will be allowed to select up to 3 staff members (1st Choice, 2nd Choice, and 3rd Choice) that they would like to receive their diploma from. The list of staff that have confirmed participation is attached. You may only select a PHSC staff member on the attached list. Once you have selected your staff member of choice, there will be no changes. If you do not select anyone to hand your diploma to you, Mr. Lanier will do so.
This form is due Friday, February 10th. Every student is required to return this form. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Melton at katie_melton@plsd.us.
ALL Career Center SENIORS:
Remember to email Mr. Peirano and/or Ms. Hoffman with the names of colleges you plan to apply to and the method you are using to apply (Common App or directly to the institution’s website). This is required in order to send transcripts to those colleges. Each school has their own FAFSA deadlines as well. You can check in-state FAFSA deadlines here. Please use the Senior HUB for all of your Senior related questions. Much of the information that you are looking for will be listed in this hub: PHSC Senior Hub
PLSD Student Email Accounts:
It is important to check your PLSD email each week for updates from the district and PHSC. We do not catch every piece of information that is being sent out, so it is on you to make sure you are checking both accounts regularly.
You still can access your PLSD email accounts. If you have not accessed your PLSD account since last year, your password has been reset. Here is a link to information on what it currently looks like so you can access your account.
