Southeastern Scene
Weekly Happenings at Southeastern Elementary
Principal's Postings
Welcome to the January 21st, 2022, edition of Southeastern Scene.
Hello, Southeastern families:
We wanted to make sure to share with our families that we have topics of concern that are coming up at school. The topics are related to an on-line game called "Poppy Playtime," and the show titled, "Squid Games." We have observed students at Southeastern Elementary making reference to the on-line game, and the show. In addition to making reference to the games in conversations, we are also seeing students create games at recess using the characters and story lines. Due to the violent and inappropriate content of both, we wanted to make you aware of key words to look and listen for as you supervise on line activity, listen to conversations and observe play at home.
The character names from "Poppy Playtime" include, Huggy Wuggy, Kissy Missy, Boogie Bot, Candy Cat, Poppy, Cat-Bee and Bron. The name "Poppy Playtime" wouldn't normally warrant concern in a search history due to the whimsical nature of the title. The play that is happening as a result of being exposed to the game is aggressive and violent in nature.
The show Squid Games highlights popular childhood games such as, Red Light Green Light, Tug of War, Marbles, and Hopscotch. Again, the titles would not cause a concern, however the extreme violence that is used to play and the highly inappropriate content of the show are a huge cause for concern. The play that is happening as a result of being exposed to the show is aggressive and violent in nature.
Our entire staff has been made aware so that we can diligently listen and observe in order to intervene the moment we hear or see anything. Our guidance counselor has made links available for you to review below. Thank you for working alongside us to ensure that our children are always safe.
Yours in education,
Danielle Chastain, Principal

Poppy Playtime Warning
We have recently become aware of an online game called Poppy Playtime. It appears that a large number of our Explorers are either playing this game or watching it be played. Poppy Playtime is NOT appropriate for children. Please take a moment to watch or read the attached reviews that explain the risks and red flags for your child's exposure to this game.

Arriving to School Late
Morning car rider line ends at 7:45 a.m. If you are dropping your student(s) off at school after morning car rider, and there are no adult staff members present outside, you MUST park your car, walk your student into the building, and sign him/her in at the table inside door #1. It is a safety concern to let students out curbside without adult supervision, and we want to be certain that all students are safe while entering/exiting the building. Also, students dropped off late will be marked “tardy" in Skyward. A student is considered tardy when arriving after 7:45.
