The Patriot Premier
The Weekly Update for NPHS families, Sept. 23 - 28, 2019
Homecoming Week Was Fun!
FYI: name-change...This "Patriot Post" is now "The Patriot Premier." Our students are hoping to start a school newspaper and want to call it "The Patriot Post," so we're making way for that creative work.
Homecoming this past week celebrated the 43 year legacy of North Pole High School! The week began with the National Coalition Building Institute workshop in Oehring auditorium from 6 - 8 pm. There were about 70 people in attendance and we learned about the needs and concerns of different caucus groups in an attempt to understand and build connections. On Tuesday, about 30 of our students attended the African American Leadership Conference and were inspired. All of our sports teams competed, and students and staff dressed up to show their spirit. Our assembly on Friday was enthusiastic and introduced the fall sports teams and clubs, with special performances by the cheerleaders and band. Our Homecoming dance Saturday was phenomenal with nearly half the student body (close to 300 students) attending. The theme was "Carnival" and students played all sorts of games in the commons like you'd see at the State Fair, and even got to eat cotton candy. Others danced the night away in the gym with DJ Polo where the royal family, as voted by the students, was crowned. A special thanks to the Student Council, sponsor Wendy Castillo, and all the staff and chaperones who came out to help make it a great event!
This coming week begins with "Life After High School" night in the auditorium at 6 pm on Monday (put on by our counseling department). On Tuesday a group of educators from Australia and Tasmania will visit our school at 10 am for a couple of hours to see how education is done at our school. Wednesday is our Challenge Day for students and staff who are interested, and Friday is a district-wide professional development day, meaning no school for students.
Have a great week!
