Good morning Cannon families,
Well here it is, the last week of the 2021-2022 school year! We have so much to celebrate as we reflect on this amazing year!
First, let me start with a BIG SHOUT OUT & THANK YOU to Mandy Coburn for organizing an AMAZING Career Day experience for our scholars!! As well as a huge THANK YOU to our Parents and Community Leaders that showed up to present such engaging career day learning experiences - Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! We are so proud to partner with such amazing Cannon Community Stakeholders!
We also want to give a shout out to our 5th grade students, our honor choir, anad Ms. Stewart for their performance last week at the GCISD Music Festival! Way to take 1st Place!
This week we honor our scholars with End Of Year success ceremonies and celebrations! If you plan to attend, make sure you arrive early to sign in with your driver's license. Please see below for more details.
It is expected that the Texas Education Agency provide STAAR performance notifications to campuses tomorrow Monday, May 23rd. As soon as we can process the information we will notify all families that will need to register for summer school based on their students performance. Letter notifications will be shared this week and Accelerated Instruction Committee meetings must take place for all 3rd and 5th graders that score a Does Not Meet rating. We will be reaching out as soon as possible to set up a time to meet this week.
*Students not meeting grade level STAAR standards must attend 2022 summer school. This year, the 87th Texas Legislature passed House Bill 4545 (HB 4545) to address additional learning opportunities for students who do not meet standards on the STAAR exams. Parents please stop by the clinic for your student's medications if you will be attending the END of the YEAR Celebrations. Remaining medication will be sent home at the end of the day Wednesday. I will be off campus Thursday. Please remember any controlled medication MUST be picked up by a parent.

Tuesday, May 24 - 1st and 3rd Grade End of Year Success Ceremonies and Celebrations
1st Grade: 10:00-10:50 Families come for Awards in the amphitheatre and stay 10:50-11:30 for lunch - parents bring their favorite picnic food (Cafeteria food will be available if needed - Students ONLY).
3rd Grade: Lunch with parents 12:00-1:00, Award ceremony at 1:00 in the amphitheatre. The grade level will be collecting $4.00 for pizza, juice and cookies (Food is for students only).
Wednesday, May 25 - 2nd and 4th Grade End of Year Success Ceremonies and Celebrations
2nd Grade: Awards in the amphitheatre at 10:45 and then lunch on the lawn at 11:45 behind the 2nd grade classes. The grade level will be collecting $4.00 for pizza, juice and cookies (Food is for students only).
4th Grade: 12:00-1:00 Lunch picnic with parents - parents bring their favorite picnic food (Cafeteria food will be available if needed - Students ONLY). The grade level will provide a sweet treat for everybody with a goodie during the picnic. Awards in the amphitheater at 1:00 after lunch.

5th Grade: 11:00am - We invite all 5th grade parents and staff to join us for our annual 5th grade CLAP OUT to their Award Ceremony. Directly following the Awards Ceremony, our 5th graders will enjoy a lunch cookout and a lawn games party as they celebrate the end of their elementary years!

Registration for the 2022-2023 school year begins May 2
Beginning Monday, registration for both new and returning families will be open in Skyward. As a reminder, the primary guardian will need to complete the registration in Skyward Family Access. Don't forget to provide two forms of proof of residency to complete the registration process. If you have forgotten your login and/or password, please click on Forgot login or password on the login screen and that information will be sent to your email.
Please note that bus rider registration will not be included in Skyward registration this year. If students need to register as a bus rider, they can do so by visiting www.GCISD.net/transportation after completing registration in Skyward.
If you are withdrawing from GCISD, please fill out the following Google Form.

Summer School Information
As campuses have sent home the early letters to families about their students' possible recommendation to attend Dream Camp due to potential STAAR scores in 3rd 4th, and 5th, we discovered the need to revise and clarify some components of our summer programs.
- Dream Camp - By Invitation ONLY (Language Acquisition for Emergent Bilinguals and Intervention for PreK-2nd)
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 2:30 at Timberline Elementary
- June 1 - July 1
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 12:00 at Timberline Elementary
- June 1 - completion of 30 or 60 hours
- No fee for HB 4545 tutorials
- Monday - Friday, 8:00 - noon at Colleyville Heritage High School
- June 6 - June 24
We wanted to pass along some helpful information for parents as they have questions about the programs, particularly for the Accelerated Instruction at Dream Camp for 3rd and 4th grade students and STAAR Academy for 5th graders.

During the week of May 23-27, 2022, administrators from your elementary campus will contact you if your student is recommended to attend Accelerated Instruction at Dream Camp or the STAR Academy. Students are recommended if they do not perform satisfactorily on a STAAR or STAAR Alt exam and are identified as needing to participate in 30 or 60 hours of extra tutoring during the summer to accelerate their learning per subject. Students who do not complete the 30 or 60 hours this summer will need to complete their hours during the 2022-2023 school year. Teachers will provide 4 hours of accelerated instruction in either math or reading each day. If a student plans to miss 5 days or more of summer instruction, it will be recommended that they complete their hours during the 22-23 school year. In order for us to secure a student's spot, the parents must commit to their child attending daily to fulfill all of their hours. Due to staffing, we will be unable to accommodate students who only attend partial days.
GCISD Color Guard Camp
Introducing the 2nd Annual GCISD Color Guard Camp. The CHHS Diamonds Color Guard have teamed up with the GHS Color Guard to bring you a FULL week of FULL day Color Guard activities. Open to incoming 1st-8th graders, the camp will teach your kids how to spin flags, spin rifles (7th and 8th graders), dance, and perform.
The camp will run from June 27th-July 1st 8:30am-4:00pm. Drop off is from 8-8:30am and pick up is from 4-4:30pm.
Construction Updates - Various GCISD Tracks Closed for Public Use
Over the next few months, construction will be taking place on the track and turf at a few GCISD locations. This means that the track and field at the following locations will be closed for public use until further notice:
Colleyville Heritage High - closed beginning May 1
Mustang Panther Stadium - closed beginning May 1
Cross Timbers Middle - closed beginning June 1
Community members looking for a track available for public use can utilize Colleyville Middle, Grapevine Middle or Heritage Middle during this time. Thank you for your cooperation.

2022 Summer Food Service Program Information

The Summer Food Service Program provides free meals to all children age 18 and younger. These meals provide essential nutrients for active growing kids. Children need good nutrition year-round so they can learn, grow and succeed in life. With nearly 2 million food insecure children living in Texas, these healthy meals are vital to nourishing young Texans during the summer vacation.
Summer food program meal sites help children succeed by providing the nourishment they need to return to school in the fall ready to thrive. To participate in the free meal program, all kids have to do is show up at a serving site.

Breakfast and lunch will be offer vs. serve. Students will need to select a minimum three components for breakfast and lunch. At lunch the meal must include a fruit or vegetable in order to have a complete meal.
The entire meal must be consumed at the serving site absolutely no “to go” breakfasts or lunches are available.

GCISD Student Device Check
As we prepare for summer, now is a great time to look at your child's GCISD-issued devices and ask them about any issues they may be having.
If there are any issues, please have your student put in a helpdesk ticket and drop off their GCISD device for repair before leaving for the summer. This will ensure the device can be repaired and returned well before the next school year.
Once repaired, you and your child will receive an email with an option to pick up the device over the summer at one of our 24/7 kiosk pickup points.
We appreciate you taking the time to look at your child’s device. Some common issues include:
Cracks or dents on the exterior
Battery not holding a charge
Anything else you feel is just not working right
Please help us get these items fixed so your student is ready to kick off a successful school year in August.
Current 4th and 8th grade students will receive new devices when school starts. Students eligible to have their device repaired this summer include students currently in 5th, 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grades.
As a reminder, as previously presented in several newsletters and district publications, for the 2022-23 school year, students will NOT be allowed to bring their own devices to school. To find out more about this change, follow this link.
Bring Your Own Device FAQs
As a reminder, beginning in August 2022, personal PC or MacBook laptops will no longer be able to connect to the internet while on a GCISD campus. This means that students will need to use a district-issued device while on campus.
Survey Regarding HSI
GCISD is reviewing human sexuality instruction in light of changes made by the Texas Legislature and the adoption of a new health textbook. As GCISD considers next steps in light of these changes, we are seeking parental input and feedback.
The District has already emailed to parents a letter via Skyward that further explains legislative changes and reviews the District's current practices. We encourage parents who want to become more familiar with the District's current human sexuality instruction, and to learn about potential new instructional materials, to learn more by visiting the GCISD website, then complete the survey.
Video instructions on accessing the survey can be watched here. If you plan to not opt your child into this portion of the health education curriculum, we are asking that you still complete the survey.

Standard Response Protocols
In GCISD, the safety and security of our students and staff are our top priority. We have partnered with the I Love You Guys Foundation to implement Standard Response Protocols, or as we called them, Ss, that are used in emergency situations.
Emergency personnel in Colleyville, Euless and Grapevine work in partnership with GCISD to ensure we keep all students and staff safe. UPDATED Math Telescoping Exams
Math Telescoping Exams
Second round of testing opportunities for Telescoping in Math for the 2022-2023 school year will be available in
JULY 2022 for GCISD students who are currently completing Grades K-7.
The Math Telescoping Parent Information Packet is available on the GCISD district website under the “Parents” tab and then click on “Math Telescoping”. Here you will be on the main Math Telescoping, Grades K-7 website page. Please view the current Acceleration Testing Calendar for 2021-2022 on the website.
Parents will find information about the requirements to qualify for Math Telescoping and instructions about the Online Registration Process and the required Payment Online Process. View the TEKS on the TEA website and download Study Guides for the exams purchased from UTHS-Austin. These two links, TEKS and UTHS Study guide are found at the bottom of the Math Telescoping main page of the GCISD website.
Exam Fee(s): There is a fee for EACH exam ordered. All Paper and Online Remote exams are ordered from UTHS-Austin. Please review the Math Telescoping Crosswalk BEFORE registering to see if your child will be required to take 1 or 2 exams. This is super important for registration and exam fees.

(Paper in-person is “REQUIRED” for students taking math exam levels 1 & 2)
(Paper in-person is “optional” for students taking math exam levels 3 & higher)
$40.00 for EACH “Online Remote Proctorio” exam
(Online from home is available only for students taking math exam levels 3 & higher.)
Math Exam Levels 1 & 2 must be given orally. These Paper exams will be administered at the GCISD location. Proctors will read the questions and students will mark their answers in the test booklet. Proctors will transcribe their answers to a computer graded answer sheet for scoring by the UTHS-Austin Testing Center.
The online registration form will go live on the GCISD website June 13-21, 2022 for the July test dates.

2022-2023 Instructional Calendar
On Monday, December 13, the GCISD Board of Trustees approved the student and staff instructional calendar for the 2022-2023 school year.
A few highlights from the 2022-2023 instructional calendar:
Students will begin classes on Wednesday, August 17.
Students will have a four-day weekend from October 29 - November 1, with October 31 and November 1 being Professional Development Days.
Classes end for the first semester on Wednesday, December 21. The second semester begins after Winter Break on Monday, January 9.
Teachers return from Winter Break on Friday, January 6, for a Professional Development Day.
Spring Break is March 13 - March 17.
Students and staff will have a four-day weekend in April (dependent on the need to makeup one or both inclement weather days).
Classes are finished on Thursday, May 25.

Cafe Menu Update!
Please see the updated menu attached. Nutrition services has indicated the vegetarian friendly items in green. In addition, they have added a couple of plant based menu items on the menu. They also plan to offer a hummus box daily in addition to the baked potato that is available. All menu items are subject to change due to availability. Students may always select a vegetable plate that consists of two vegetables, one fruit, one grain, and milk.
