Success Feedback from Mead and Mills
A big shout out to our students who are showing respect for our school and also advocating for our custodian crew. Several students have been "caught" picking up trash around the washroom areas on each hallway without being asked to do so. We've also had several 4th graders ask if they could grab a broom to sweep up all of the trash left behind from those who ate lunch before them.
If a student reports vandalism to you, please thank them for letting you know and make a big deal about how awesome it is that they want our school to be a clean and a positive place for everyone. Praise their behavior and then ask the class if anyone would like to advocate for our school by helping our custodial crew remove the vandalism. Call or email their parents with a positive shout out.
Research shows this will stop the vandals because they are getting no attention for their actions. Let's test it to see if we get the same results.
Help us continue to make it more desirable to keep our school neat, clean and orderly. Also spotlight students who are advocating for others by helping them in the classroom. We would love to recognize these behaviors on morning announcements!
Attendance Reminders
Please have students turn in all notes regarding absences or tardy to the office within 72 hours so that they may be excused.
The office tracks tardy students and corresponds with the parents the importance of being on time and remaining at school for the school day.
Consider positive behavior supports you can put in place to support students who are showing a tendency to be late, leave early, or are absent. Find out what motivates them and consider having that motivator in place at the most optimal time to get them here and to stay at school.
CHAMPS Shout Outs
Behaviors that are celebrated are those we will see increasingly. Please take a moment to explain to your students why we have CHAMPS expectations for our school. One important reason is it keeps a calm environment for learning and seeking solutions to problems as they arise.
One real world example our students can connect to just occurred on Friday in our cafeteria. A student was choking on a steak finger at the same time the monitor brought the cafeteria to a voice level 0. This allowed our staff to act swiftly in helping the student dislodge the food and seek additional support from Nurse Shannon.
Please remind your students of the following:
Remain seated at all times.
Raise hand to ask permission to get assistance with opening packages; to go to the restroom or to get a cup of water.
Remain at a CHAMP 0 when they are called to clean up and sit on the tape to wait for you.
Most Importantly- when the monitor brings the cafeteria to a CHAMP 0, they need to immediately go to a 0.
Thanks for helping us create a structure safe dining experience for our kids!
