Health Office News
Dear Families,
We wanted to reach out to let you know that we are seeing โflu-likeโ activity here at Hinesburg Community School, consistent with what is being reported across our State and the country. I am finding that most local pediatricians are NOT testing for the FLU but telling parents they suspect FLU and sometimes are giving Tamiflu as a treatment without a definitive diagnosis. When you call the attendance line please let us know your childโs symptoms if they are ill (fever, vomiting, etc). If you are emailing for an absence due to illness (or injury) please include me so I can keep accurate health records and notice trends in classrooms, which allows me to notify you more quickly if necessary.
I wanted to share this important information to help keep your child and our community healthy. In an effort to reduce the spread of illness, we ask that you keep your sick child home until they are healthy (fever-free for 24 hours without medicine), reinforce the importance of covering coughs and sneezes with an elbow or tissue, and encourage your child to wash hands often and well. At school, we are reinforcing good hand and cough hygiene and cleaning in work spaces. If you decide to medicate your child with Tylenol (Acetaminophen) or Motrin/Advil(Ibuprofen), please email me. Very often I see spikes in fevers around 10-11a.m as the medication starts to wear off. Students ARE allowed to bring lozenges/cough drops to school if they use them appropriately (younger students leave in my office or on teachers desk, follow directions for dosing- usually 1 every 2 hours, not to be shared with others and not to be used during activities when they could choke).
Please let the Health Office know if your child is sick with flu-like illness or if he or she has been diagnosed with influenza. If you have any questions, we encourage you to call your child's pediatrician or refer to the resources we've shared below.

CVU Annual Family Formal
On Saturday, March 21, 2020, CVUโs Principles of Business class will host the Annual Family Formal. The Family Formal is a dance for children and their families. This event allows children to get dressed up, attend a function with important adults in their lives, and help make a wish come true for a child living with a life threatening illness in our community.
The dance will be held in the CVU Cafeteria from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold for $25 per adult, $10 per child, with a family max of $60. Our class goal is to raise $5,000. All proceeds will be donated to the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Vermont to sponsor the wish of a child. This is a great opportunity to spend time with your family, support a great cause, and have fun!
