USC Elementary REBEL Review
You Matter! Every Child - Every Day
February 2019
2nd semester is upon us and it is a good time to remind everyone about the importance of good attendance at school and being ready to learn. Being in school every day means your child won’t miss out on learning. If your child asks to stay home “just because”, remind him/her of what they will miss, such as reading group or art class. Explain that he/she can only be absent if they are sick or if there’s a family emergency. Thank you for your support in helping your student achieve good attendance at school!
February is "I Love To Read Month"!! Watch for the calendar of fun reading activities for home!
Also, we will again be having our "Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham" Breakfast on Friday, March 1st at 7:00-7:50 am. See below for more details! We hope you can join us!
Let's have a great 2nd semester!!

Maker Space Lab!
Maker Space is a great way for students to use their skills and knowledge they have acquired throughout the school year. The Maker Space Lab will be set-up to allow students the flexibility to use their imaginations, to be creative, and to inspire them!
Examples of Activities include:
- Bee-Bots - used to learn coding skills to code a robot
- Legos - Free building and challenge cards
- 3D Printer - Learn how the 3D printer works
- Creating and Building - use a variety of materials to build creations
- Magnet Stations - Explore how magnets work
- Plus much more!!!
If a project is able to be brought home, the students will do that. Otherwise, we will take pictures and post on the webpage and Facebook.
Flex Learning Days
It's that time of year again where we need to be prepared for the event of winter weather. The USC School Board approved up to 3 Flex Learning days if needed due to inclement weather. If school is cancelled, you will get a notice that it will be a Flex Learning Day. This will also be announced on radio and TV stations in the area.
PK-4 students should have Flex Folders in their backpacks, ready to access in this event. There are directions for what to complete for that day, as well as information about how to get in touch with teachers during the day for any questions you might have in order for your child to complete the work.
Fifth and sixth grade students will need to go onto Schoology to find their assignments for the day. There is also information on there about contacting teachers if needed.
If you are unable to connect to the internet, please send a note with your child the next day with that information. Students will have 2 days to make-up their work from the Flex Day.
Jumping For A Great Cause
Our annual Jump Rope For Heart event will be on Thursday, Feb. 14. This event has always been a successful event and in the past our students have raised over $40,000 for the American Heart Association!! All students will participate during their PE class.

Growth Mindsets - The 7 Mindsets - We Are Connected
For the month of February we will be focusing on the mindset called "We Are Connected". The We are Connected mindset teaches us that everyone who comes into our lives can help us to achieve and live our dreams. Working with, for, and through others is crucial to realizing our dreams. When you understand this and constantly seek the positives from relationships with others, your performance in every area of your life improves. In the lessons for this mindset, we help students explore synergies with others, embrace diversity, and relish the competition that will allow them to maximize their potential by working with and through others.
