Central Elementary Staff News----February 13--February 17
Math Textbook Adoption
Dear Staff,
One of the most important decisions we will make this year is what math textbook we will adopt. It is time to really dig in the materials and begin to form opinions to make decisions.
Next steps
- Focus attention on Everyday Math and Ready Math
- Talk with the committee representative in your grade level
- Find a lesson on an upcoming topic from Ready Math and Everyday Math to try with your students
The committee will want feedback from you as we are meeting with the vendors the week of spring break. As a reminder the following teachers are members of the committee: Katy R., Carey H., Rachelle M., Kim L., Sarah T., and Melissa M.
Have a great week!
Julie

Announcements and Reminders
- At the school board meeting our summer building project was a officially approved at about 1.3 million. Very exciting times for Central Elementary!
- ISTEP Materials are being stored in the conference room for better security. Please note that you can use the LGI for conferences. I apologize for the inconvenience.
- Please continue to take still photos for the yearbook. For example, we did not include bus buddies in the yearbook as a club, but it would be very good to have photos of students doing this important job for us.
- 9 School Days Until ISTEP Window Opens! Part 1 is February 27- March 10, 2017
- IREAD Test Window March 13-March 17, 2017
- Give items for discussion to team leaders before February 16th
- Reminder that February 17 is a make-up snow day. Even if we have a snow day as late as the 16th, we will be at school on the 17th (plan accordingly).
Substitutes Please reach out to Nicole Crum if you need a sub several months away. It will only be to your benefit to secure a substitute teacher early. FYI, the 8th grade breakfast will be held on May 12th. Thank you.
Technology committee met. Those on the committee (Courtney Carmichael, Lauren Richard, and Shonda Meranda) will begin to reach out and get your feedback as we develop an elementary five year plan. The committee is focusing on 1) student devices, 2) instructional technology, and 3) software and systems.

Valentine's Day Parties
Teachers will coordinate volunteers for individual classroom parties. Three are suggested, but it is really up to you and the help you want in your classroom. Boxes will be made up for you just like they were for the fall parties.
Valentine's Day Parties are February 16th. This is a change from the semester calendar.
