Las Positas Updates
4/21/23 Volume 2 (35)
Tomorrow, April 22nd is Earth day. Be a responsible global citizen and do something to help Earth be healthier - plant a tree, pick up trash, stop pollution, or add to conservation efforts.
State Testing is HERE!!!
Our 3rd-5th grade students will be testing beginning April 26th. This test is VERY important, and we need your help in getting your child prepared to do his/her best on this test. Below are a few things you can do to help your child have a successful testing experience:
Get your child to bed on time or a little early (a well-rested student will test better).
Provide a good, healthy breakfast before leaving for school or have them arrive at 7:40 to eat breakfast at school.
Communicate with your child that this test is important. Encourage your child to do his/her very best.
Make sure your child is here. Get to school on time to allow your child to feel relaxed and unrushed. More than ever, being on time is critical to successful testing experiences.

Encourage your friends and family with a simple high five and watch the smiles blossom automatically!
Short Film on being a Risk Taker.
Animated Short Film
Animated short films are an excellent resource for discussing risk-taking with your child. Short films are found to increase motivation through their engaging topics, visual nature and ability to evoke emotion. They make you want to laugh and cry which provides an unique opportunity for thoughtful discussion and reflection. The lack of spoken language allows these films to be accessible to all learners.
Below is a short film that allows for powerful conversation and thinking. Start with these questions to provoke thinking before viewing:
- What is the connection between risk-taking and creativity?
- How do we know we are really taking a risk?
- What's the difference between positive and negative risk-taking?
