RIVERSIDE REVIEW
10.01.2021
Principal Message
Dear RSI Families,
Happy October to the RSI Hawk community. I want to thank all of you who've supported our RSI staff and students throughout the first two months of school. A special thanks to all of our parents and community members who supported the RSI PTO snack donation for the RSI staff this week. The RSI teachers were thrilled to have some snack options all week long! As we look forward we have only two weeks prior to a full October Break the week of October 18th.
This week we were fortunate to have an intermediate principal meeting at RSI where our Assistant Superintendent, the Director of Elementary, and all Intermediate Principals were present to walk the halls and visit classrooms. We visited about half of the academic classrooms and were pleased to find very engaged Hawks collaborating around meaningful work. Our teachers were actively orchestrating learning in a manner that was truly warm, positive and focused.
I would like to thank all of our car rider parents for getting into the groove with the traffic pattern and for being kind to one another. We have many students moving about at departure, your focus on safety is absolutely appreciated!
Sincerely,
Dana Kaminski, Ph.D.

Covid Info for Families
Please remember to send your student to school healthy. If a student is ill and has any of the symptoms of Covid listed below, we encourage you to get your student tested using a PCR test, which is available via Fishers Health Department (COVID Vaccine | Fishers, IN - Official Website) or the Indiana Department of Health (ISDH - Novel Coronavirus: COVID-19 Testing Information). PCR tests are the most accurate and provide less risk of a false positive or negative result. A visit to your physician is also suggested if you feel this is not Covid-related, then a doctor's note would be needed for your student to return to school. Please do not send your child to school ill or while waiting for Covid test results.
Symptoms to monitor for:
Fever or chills

5th Grade
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your student learned how to reflect on their experience working toward a goal.
Try This at Home:
Ask your student to tell you about their goal-setting journey, including what worked, what didn’t work, and what they could do next time. Tell your student about a goal that you set and worked toward. What worked, what didn’t work, and what did you learn?
6th Grade
Summary:
In this week’s lesson, your student practiced breaking big goals down into smaller, short-term goals.
Question:
Think of a time you achieved a big goal, such as learning to drive or graduating from school. Tell your student about your goal and the series of smaller steps you needed to take to achieve it. Ask your student to tell you about a goal they have.

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
Response to Instruction (RtI) is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
