PBL9 Hosts Old School Field Day for Wyncote Third Graders
On Thursday, Oct. 10, the freshman Project Based Learning cohort (PBL9) visited Wyncote Elementary School and facilitated an old school field day for the third graders. The activities were reimagined versions of games from ancient times like “Bunnies and Bobcats,” “Panda Hockey,” “Microrush” and “Chunkey Monkey,” but had to incorporate an animal adaptation. The essential question driving this project was “Why change?” Students researched how ancient games changed over time, as well as how animals have changed and evolved over time to survive. The end goal was to create a game that was new and innovative, and would hopefully stand the test of time.

Instant Decision Days off to a Great Start
Congratulations to seniors (left to right) Nadia Martin, Vivien Eng, Mya Elston (the recipient of a Raider Success Scholarship worth $2k per year), Matthew McCloud, Dominique Vidal, Avin Grant, Kayla Clark and Maitlyn Smith for receiving instant decision acceptances to Shippensburg University. Instant decision days are opportunities for students, who meet the criteria and deadlines, to have a one-on-one interview with an admission counselor from a participating college or university. During this one-on-one interview, students will provide college-related information and answer questions. At the end of the interview, the admission counselor will either offer admission to their college or university or the admission counselor will provide the student with tips on how they can increase their chances in the regular decision application process.

GSSO Leaders Support #HispanicHeritageMonth
At Glenside Elementary's first Glenside Student Services Organization (GSSO) meeting, students made papel picado in celebration of Hispanic History Month. Papel picado ("perforated paper," "pecked paper") is a decorative craft made by cutting elaborate designs into sheets of tissue paper and is considered Mexican folk art. The designs will be displayed around the school.

Junior Sam Sykes Named Suburban One League Player of the Week
Congratulations to junior LB/RB Sam Sykes for being named the Suburban One Sports Sterling Limo Player of the Week after his dominant two-way performance in the Panthers' 28-24 homecoming victory over Plymouth-Whitemarsh on Friday. His citation:
Sam Sykes, Cheltenham – The junior linebacker shared the team lead with nine tackles in Cheltenham’s 28-24 win over Plymouth Whitemarsh. It was his stop in the game’s final seconds on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line that preserved the win for the Panthers. He also was pressed into emergency duty on offense and – on fourth-and-long – hauled in an Adonis Hunter pass, shed would-be tacklers and took it 47 yards for the go-ahead touchdown that gave the Panthers a 28-24 lead.
Coach Ryan Nase says: “Sam doesn’t always get the attention he deserves because he a junior amongst a number of talented senior offensive football players, but there is no denying his talent. He has been a major catalyst to the turnaround at Cheltenham and has been a varsity player since his freshman year.”
