Week 2 in the books!

The week started with a bang with Meet the Teacher Night and will end with our first pep rally of the year. You guys did an awesome job with dress code and tardy enforcement this week. Keep up the good work.

I will be visiting classrooms next week to see you in action. Tuesday, I will be joined by our Assistant Superintendent for Student Services, Dr. Melinda DeFelice, in observing quality instruction.

Some instructional points of emphasis this year are:

  • Content and Language objectives either posted or referenced at some point during the lesson
  • Less teacher driven and more student focused
  • Frequent opportunities for students to generate original responses to quality questions
  • Wait time for students to process and expand if the first answer is not quite there

Instructional Tip of the Week

Don't let students off the hook when it comes to turning in assignments. When we allow students to not turn in work, how do we know what they have mastered? My daughter has to make her bed everyday. When she doesn't, I could really show her and scold her with, "Hannah because you didn't make your bed, I'll show you...you can't make your bed." I am no closer to achieving the learning objective (my daughter making her bed). Although a simplistic analysis, the same philosophy applies with any missing assignments a student may not have completed.

MHS is proud to announce the newest member of the Lion Nation

Staff, please take a minute to congratulate Mr. Jonathan Woods and his wife Kelly on the arrival of their first child, Mason George Woods, born on 9/2/15.
