Tai Chi Chuan for Beginners
Have fun, relax and experience various QiGong exercises and the Yang 24-movement short form. You will also learn how the movements of the form can be applied to self-defense, although that will not be a major focus of the course. Dr. James Clark, instructor. Classes take place at the North East Community Learning Center on Thursdays beginning February 16, 2017 and on Wednesdays beginning February 15, 2017 at Reagan HS from 6:30-7:30 PM. Cost is $65.
Tai Chi Level 1 & Chen Tai Chi
The ancient art of Tai Chi uses gentle flowing movements to reduce the stress of today's busy lifestyles and improve health. Anyone, regardless of age or physical ability, can practice Tai Chi. Chen Tai Chi is the oldest style of Tai Chi among five major styles. You will experience Chen style's unique alternated speed and silk reeling technique to quickly enhance your balance, strength, and power as well as graceful, slow and soft movements and effective mind work. Instructor, Ming Xie, has been training and teaching Tai Chi for over 25 years. Classes take place at the North East Community Learning Center from 3:30-4:30 PM. Tai Chi Level 1 is on Tuesdays beginning February 7, 2017 and Chen Tai Chi on Thursdays beginning February 9, 2017. Cost is $120.
Aikido for Self Defense and Fitness
The gentle martial art of Aikido features holds and throws applied in a circular manner allowing you to protect yourself without violence. Learn while having fun in a relaxed, noncompetitive atmosphere. Dr. James Clark, MS, MPH, Sandan (3rd level black belt) has been teaching Aikido since 1974 and self-defense at UTSA for 20 years. Classes take place at Johnson HS on Tuesdays beginning February 14, 2017 from 7:00-8:30 PM. Cost is $69.
