Colts Pride in Action
Our HUGE KUDOS goes out to our coaches for their reflective and innovative road maps that created out of a need of a focused need for remediation. They came up with a clear idea that will meet all of our students needs while using our best practices of differentiated small groups! BRAVO!
PBIS Tip of the Week -
Q3 assessments important information
Reading: 4/1/19 - 4/5/19
Social Studies and Science: 4/5/19 - 4/11/19
The quarterly benchmark assessments must be given with fidelity in a "testing environment." When planning to administer your quarterly assessments, please do NOT leave this for a substitute. As you may know. this is important to give us an accurate picture of student performance and you are going to provide that environment for your students. This is especially important for our Q3 assessment because this assessment is our best indicator for student performance and student need as it relates to remediation and instruction. The Q3 assessment also gives us the big picture of where students are performing before the SOL test for our remediation groups. If you have any questions, please come see Mrs. Backer. The following guidelines are expected of ALL classrooms in grades 2 - 5.
- Testing environment - rooms should be set up in a manner that mimics what students will encounter during the SOLs. This does not mean walls must be covered, rather student desks should be arranged in a similar fashion. The assessment should be completed in a whole group format.
- Small group - students with an IEP or 504 who have small group testing accommodation noted, must be pulled out of the classroom to complete their assessment. Note that this will impact scheduling as case managers and TAs will be administering assessments in multiple grade levels. Your flexibility is expected and appreciated.
- Prompting, scaffolding, and supports - students with documented accommodations are the only students who should receive any accommodations. Students should not be prompted in any way during their Q3 assessment.
- The use of scratch paper should be an expectation and students should carry out the routine and procedure that you have set.
REPORT CARD INFO - 3RD MARKING PERIOD
3/28/19 - Specialist Grades due by 5:00 PM
3/29/19 - Homeroom teacher grades and comments due by 5:00 PM
"At the conclusion of the third grading period, teachers should check the appropriate box on the report card indicating that the student is not meeting grade level expectations or clearly articulate within the comments section of the report card that the student is struggling to meet grade level expectations for promotion."
This box should only be checked if you have discussed the potential retention student with Mrs. Backer and Mrs. Porter (via 1:1 or during your quarterly data meeting) AND a SRT meeting has been held or there has been a recent conference with the parent indicating the same information. See Mrs. Backer or Mrs. Porter if you have specific questions.
Maker Space Jump Ropes for Tanzania
Calling all 3rd-5th grade students and their parents! We will
be making jump ropes out of trash bags to send to an orphanage in Tanzania. Students will come down to the library for 20-minute sessions to work on making them.
Teachers, I hope you will also jump on board with this project by setting aside times for your students to come down to the library to work on this. I will begin by training a group of 4th graders during the Fun Friday PE in conjunction with May Robertson and the “Jump Rope for Heart” program. I will work with Mrs. Zajac to train a group of 5th graders during her Power Hour rotations on Thursday. The 4th and 5th grade students, along with parent volunteers, will then train the 3rd grade students.
Pictured to the side is an example of what one of the jump ropes looks like and they are surprisingly sturdy considering the materials they are made out of. We are hoping to make between 50-60 jump ropes by the end of May.
