ASSESSMENTS
Week 5 discussion 1
"Assessment is not about you as a teacher, its about your students"
I have never read a more true statement yet it is not one that we follow as educators. The assessment should be about what the student has learned or what skills they still need help in and used to help the teacher better teach there students. However so many times assessments are used to grade the teacher and there job performance is based on how the children do on assessments.
Defending our assessment practices
Lopez's 4 questions under "Defending our Practices" are questions that every educator can use on a daily bases to ensure they are doing what they need to be successful at teaching. They should be posted somewhere in the room so they can easily remind themselves of the questions to be asking when they are planning and teaching.
In what ways have you succeeded/failed to make students your partner in assessment?
I work for a head start that is data driven. So I am constantly looking at the test scores and assessment reading to see where my students are and what areas I need to focus on to make them more successful. We do individualization based on the assessments to help students that are above and below the average.
