Raureka School Term 4 Week 5
Newsletter 17 November 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou katoa, Talofa lava, Kia orana,
We certainly have had a warm few days with our children now getting ready for the Athletics which are next Wednesday, unfortunately because of the new mandate we won't be able to have spectators on site. Parents will however be able to watch from outside the school grounds.
The cricket finally got underway last weekend, well done to everyone for doing your best and playing well.
Cricket Results: Hardball won against Havelock, 107 to 27. Player of the Day: Manjot (19 runs and 2 wickets),
Softball: Raureka Corbett’s won against Raureka Davy’s 56 to 42 - well done to Player of the Day Preea from Raureka Corbett’s and to Connor from the Raureka Davy’s
Vaccination Certificates: As from yesterday,November 16th, everyone who works in schools or has access to children must have had their first vaccination and by 1 January 2022 be fully vaccinated. All teachers and support support staff need to be vaccinated to work in schools. This also means that all parent helpers who go on trips/ take sports teams etc will need to show their vaccination status to us. I will also need to record this information in a vaccination register. This has been mandated and we must comply because we want to ensure that everyone is kept safe. Please don't be offended if I ask for your vaccination status if you are going to helping us help the children.
Thank you for helping us keep safe.
We are doing our best to follow all of the new Health regulations to ensure the safety of our children. Parents will be able to come on site later for meetings etc but they will need to wear masks, sign in and maintain social distancing protocol.
Some clarification from the MoE: We continue to have queries regarding whether parents and caregivers coming onsite are required to be vaccinated.
To clarify: parents or caregivers who are dropping off, picking up or settling their children, or who are attending meetings or events on site are still permitted to attend on site whether they are vaccinated or not.
This vaccination requirement also does not apply to those who are performing services remotely or who are onsite only when children and students are not present.
The requirement to be vaccinated is only for those people who are working for the school, which may be unpaid work such as volunteering.
Class item: Last week we had our first class item with Room 8 performing for everyone else, their item was superb, you can see a couple of photos of them doing their dance moves.
We also welcomed a number of new 5 year olds to school on Friday, you can see a photo of them below. We will welcome other new children in the same way until we get the all clear to have parents back on site for assemblies. Thanks again for helping us keep everyone safe.
Farewell to Mrs Waretini: Mrs Waretini is not with us as she has gone on maternity leave early. She will be joining us again at the start of the 2023 school year. I want to thank her for all of the time and effort she has put in to working with Room 4 and the rest of the Senior Team. She will be missed by us all. Take care Dayna I look forward to having you rejoin us in 2023.
End of year assembly: We will be having our end of year Assembly on Tuesday 14th December starting at 1:45, if this is allowed by the Public Health Order.
All parents who come to the assembly will need to sign in using the Covid 19 App, enter from either of the gates off Oliphant Road (Gordon Road entry is not permitted), wear a mask, maintain strict social distancing from others and be in groups of no more than 100. We will have two roped off areas available for you out on the field- parents will be seated on the grass, please bring your own cushion.
All children will be seated in a different area from parents, please do not go and see your child as this breaks the Health protocols.
As our Assembly will be outdoors, the weather needs to be fine. If it is wet the Assembly will be cancelled.
Parents will need to enter and leave from the same gate at the back field.
Our children will be seated separately- please parents you won't be able to come and mix with the children like in the past as we have to follow the Covid-19 protocols.
At the end of assembly the teachers will take the children back to class and they will be released at the usual time. Parents can pick children up from outside the school like usual at the end of the day.
We will let you know more if things change. Thanks for supporting us.
We have our Teacher Only Day on Monday 22nd November and no staff will be onsite. The YMCA Oscar programme will be open and children can book in for that if they wish.

- medical details?
Medical Reminders
We often have a few ‘bugs’ around the school.
· A common one is a nasty cough/flu type illness. Keep your children home if they have symptoms of this as it spreads easily.
· If your child has had vomiting or diarrhoea, they MUST stay home for 2 days after the last event. This illness definitely spreads quickly around the school.
· Headlice are always around so make sure that you check your child’s hair regularly (we suggest weekly) and treat the hair if necessary. We have treatments available from school for free. Just pop in and we can give you some.
· If your child is at all unwell, please keep them home so that they don’t pass bugs on to other children. Also if a child is feeling unwell they are not able to learn easily and are much better off at home snuggled up in bed.
Don’t forget to contact the school office to let us know when your child is unwell please.
Volunteers needed for supervision of our school patrollers. The children are well trained, it is just a matter of having an adult supervise from 8.30-9.00. We need help on the following days - Front Gate: Wednesday, Friday, Back Gate: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday.
