Just a reminder about next week’s field trip on March 16 for the Mizzou engineering day: we will be eating lunch very early. Students made a lunch plan with teachers. Please remember to send your students with a lunch from home if they didn’t order a sack lunch from school.

A Message From Coach Mason
Hello families,
This is an update for PE classes. Classes have finished with dribbling with your feet and hands, and we have moved on to our dancing, rhythms, and jumping rope units.
This week in classes, we started with a dance warm-up and then a short video routine with lumi music sticks. They then worked in groups for 10-15 minutes to develop a routine of their own. I helped guide, support, and offer feedback. There have been some fantastic collaborations and ideas. I was impressed with how well they shared ideas, worked together, and performed.
Please bring tennis shoes and a water bottle on their PE day. This way, kids are prepared for PE and will have the most success.
Thanks,
Coach Mason
Second Steps
Children learn problem-solving skills so they are capable of handling interpersonal relationships effectively. All Ridgeway students will be learning problem solving skills over the next few months. We started today learning:
- You need to calm down before you solve a problem.
- Use words to describe the problem.
Families can reinforce this learning at home by practicing the skills. When adults are faced with a problem, verbalize how you calm down and use words to describe the problem.
Summer School Information
It is that time of year to enroll your student in summer school at Ridgeway Elementary! Parents/guardians may enroll online at www.cpsk12.org. Click on the ‘CPS Families Portal’ on the right-hand side. Enter your guardian ID# and password and then click the summer school tab. If you do not know your 6-digit guardian ID and/or password, please call the office at (573) 214-3550 and we can assist you.
You may also request a registration form from the Ridgeway office or download the form attached below.
We do encourage early sign up as it assures we have appropriate staff. Summer school attendance is flexible – if you have a trip planned, consider signing up anyway and attend when possible!
We look forward to seeing you this summer!

Ridgeway Book Swap
We are going to have a book swap for students! Here’s how it works:
- Students bring gently used books to school to donate for the swap. This is a great time to go through your bookshelf at home and donate books you no longer want.
- Their teacher will keep track of their donation.
- It is a 1-for-1 swap, so students who bring in 3 books will get to choose 3 books (max 5). *Note: all students will get at least one book from the book swap.
- On the day of the swap, all students will get to visit the collection of books and choose at least one book.
Bring books starting next week (Mar. 13-22). The book swap will be held March 23.
If you are interested in helping with the book swap, please email Jennifer Apperson at bockjn@health.missouri.edu
Book Fair Update
Thank you for visiting the book fair last week. We had a great turnout with over $5000 worth of sales! Congratulations to our book drawing box winners: Donovan P, Amiyah R, John G, Maame Y, Asher K, and Finnley C.
Ridgeway Garden & Grounds Workday
Ridgeway Garden & Grounds Workday - Saturday, March 18, 10:00 a.m. m - 12:00 p.m.
The PTSA Garden & Grounds Committee will be working on the front of the school and preparing garden beds for beautification and native species planting. We would appreciate grown-up helpers to dig out weeds, install edging bricks, and prepare beds for planting.
We will also be sowing some cool weather seeds in the new garden beds in the back of the school - kids & families are encouraged to help!
Dress for the weather, bring your work gloves.
Please RSVP to Garden Committee co-chairs: Emily Koonse (emilykoonse@gmail.com) or Tom Paige (tompaige@hotmail.com)

Medications
Elementary age students are not allowed to carry any medications in their backpacks, this includes cough drops and any over-the-counter meds. If your child needs to have medications at school, we need to have them checked in and paperwork completed for the health staff to administer.
