Congratulations to Ashley Snawder for hosting a very smooth and successful Mayor's Cup Academic Competition for Blake, Wilkerson, Sanders, and Kenwood Elementary Schools. Blake did not win the trophy, but everyone had a great time and many of our students won individual medals for written assessments! Nice job, Ashley! Thank you for your leadership and work in this huge undertaking. Thank you to Kathy King, Leslie Covington, Angel Murphy, and Jill Banta for volunteering to work with Ashley and me all day last Saturday.
Thank you to all of you who worked hard to make the PTA Walkathon a great success, especially Angel Murphy, and board members Lionel Fleming and Jeremiah Gritton. They have put in many volunteer hours doing lots of things to raise funds. Our students had a FANTASTIC time dancing, doing yoga, and walking for a good cause. The PTA wishes to thank everyone who has contributed toward the playground fund!! The PTA has applied for several grants and are on their way to funding Phase 1.
Teachers and instructional assistants, thank you for your thoughtful plans of action for deepening/fine-tuning STANDARDS-based learning as we get ready for statewide assessments. Retention of knowledge is highly supported when we use a spiraling approach to teaching-and-learning, particularly if we focus on retaining essential standards for each grade/subject. Thank you for encouraging your students and finding ways to keep them engaged and having fun while learning.

Due to changes in board and state policy, we will no longer be able to use the attendance code that we have used in the past. Parents can still take part in this activity but the “Present” status will no longer be applicable. Parents will have two choices, Absent Excused (counts against perfect attendance) or Absent Exempt (does not count against perfect attendance).
