Please Help If You Can!
Give Big Gallatin Valley is an event dedicated to raising money for nonprofit organizations in our community. LaMotte School has been involved, on the fringes, for a few years now. I would like to pursue more involvement this year as our “normal” fundraising efforts have been curtailed due to COVID.
I am seeking someone to organize our efforts through Give Big. It is not a huge time commitment with much of the infrastructure in place through Give Big. We just need to get the word out that we are one of the organizations that will be participating and encourage folks to donate to the LaMotte School Foundation. We have until March 15 to register for the May 6th and 7th event.
Our efforts will go toward our art program for next year and for enhanced PE opportunities for our students.
If you are interested in helping to organize this event, please contact me at 586-2838 or email me at lburke@lamotteschool.com
You can learn more about Give Big at givebiggv.org
Thank you for considering this!
Building News!
Building News!
This will be a new section in the S'more communications. In the last few months, the trustees and I have been discussing the future of the annex. When we moved the building onto our school grounds in 2009, we had no idea of how long we would be using it. The building has served us well and has provided much needed space for many purposes. In the last few years, we have had to put more and more maintenance into the building to keep it safe and comfortable for our students and staff. Unfortunately during the summer's repairs we began to notice many areas of need in the building. The building is not on a solid foundation and has sustained a considerable amount of weather related damage. After much discussion and assessing the issues, we determined that the money spent on repairing the building was not keeping up with the needs; and the life of the building (for us) is nearing its end.
During our last school board meeting, a group of architects and engineers visited with us about what it would take to begin the process of replacing the annex. It is an exciting endeavour, though we know it will require lots of hard work and the support of our community. This is only the beginning and we will involve you, our stakeholders, in the process along the way. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me or any of our board members.
At the Board Meeting on March 23, we will discuss hiring an architectural firm to assess our current buildings, our site, the septic system and well. From there they will be able to give us a good idea on what is possible on this site with our needs in mind. Once they have given us an idea of what is possible, we will reach out to our staff, students, and community for input. In the meantime, watch for any new developments here in the S'More! Thanks for reading!

CDC recommendations & cleaning masks daily
The CDC has updated their information on the importance of wearing masks during the pandemic. Visit this site to see what they are suggesting for double masking, the fit of masks and why it is so important that we all continue to wear our masks in public. Thanks for checking this out Click here
I am so proud of our students at LaMotte for wearing their masks willingly and consistently! Please remember that masks should be CLEANED each day and when the kids are outside their masks often get wet so please send them with more than one clean mask each day. Thank you - we are all doing our best to keep everyone healthy. Your efforts have been remarkable and so appreciated. Thank you for working with us.

Ice Skating Rink
The students are required to have a helmet, coat, gloves and skates in order to skate on the skating rink.
Students that want to skate during non-school hours are welcome if they have direct adult supervision. Thank you for abiding by this requirement, without your cooperation the rink may not be available for everyone to use.
Out of District Students
Thank you.
Winter Weather/Cold Temperatures
We are asking parents for your help. Please make sure your child(ren) have Hats, Gloves, Snow Boots, pants and proper coats. In the past we have had items that could be borrowed but that is not available this year. Just a double check in the morning will help ensure the kiddos stay warm while outside at recess.
Thank you!
