A Message from Mrs. Franciosa...
What an amazingly busy and fun week at Evergreen! On Thursday the Tail Waggin' Tutors made their first visit this year to be read to by the students. We had six therapy dogs visit--a few friends from last year as well as a few new furry faces! The students loved meeting the dogs and reading to them. The Perkiomen Fire Company also visited our Kindergarten and 1st grade students on Thursday. The students had a chance to meet the fire company members and see the fire trucks. On Friday we held our Little Viking Fun Run. Thank you to Home and School, the volunteers, spectators, staff and our students for making it a successful event. We are very appreciative to everyone who donated to the event.
This is a reminder that we will have an early dismissal on Wednesday October 19th. Please see below for information with arrival and dismissal times. Lunch will NOT be served on the 19th.

PSSA Student Reports--Evergreen Grades 4 & 5
Individual student reports from the 2022 PSSA have been released. These reports will be sent home with your child today, October 14, 2022. Perkiomen Valley School District, along with all 500 other school districts across Pennsylvania, participated in the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA). All of our students in grades three through eight were assessed in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. Students in fourth and eighth grades also participated in the Science assessment.
The report provides you with your child’s overall performance level and raw scores in ELA, Mathematics, and Science. The report also provides a Strength Profile which indicates your child’s performance within each of the reporting categories of the standards. While these scores are used to assess a student’s academic proficiency, they are only one factor to consider in your child’s overall educational attainment. For more information about the PSSA, visit the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s website at www.education.pa.gov.
As you examine your child’s report, please be assured that the professional staff of the District are also carefully examining and analyzing the scores of all of our students. We use these data to guide us in our ongoing efforts to improve curriculum and instruction. If you have any questions or would like additional guidance on how to interpret these results, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher, counselor, or building principal.

Our Fabulous 1st Graders
Fire Safety Week in First Grade
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week! The first grade classes learned the importance of fire safety this week. The first graders had fun with fire safety themed books, writing activities, math games, and an outdoor fire safety assembly presented by our local fire company!
Reading
Each class read a variety of books about fire safety this week. Students discussed their schema (prior knowledge), made connections, used text features, and identified key details from the texts. Some students also made fire safety mini-books to read and take home. The mini-books encouraged students to talk to their families about fire safety, checking smoke detectors, and practicing fire drills at home. You can talk to your child about the different exits in each room of your home, identifying your family’s special meeting place outside, and having family fire drills.
Writing
Throughout the week, we created a class list of Fire Safety Tips. As we learned more about fire safety each day, the students added new tips to our list. On Friday, the students wrote the fire safety tips they thought were the most important for them to practice and remember. Students illustrated their fire safety tips and had the chance to share their writing with the class.
Math
First graders participated in a “Fire Truck Roll and Color” addition game during math. They worked with a partner to roll two dice, add the number of dots on the dice, and color the truck that matched the number they rolled. The first person to color all of the fire trucks was the winner! Students did a great job working with their classmates, practicing their adding skills, and having fun!
Assembly
On Thursday, our local Perkiomen Fire Company was gracious enough to spend some time with the first grade classes. They brought their fire trucks to the playground and gave us an up close look at the special tools and features of the trucks. The volunteer firefighters also showed how their uniforms protect them in a fire. They shared additional fire safety tips and answered questions from the first graders. Thank you to the firefighters for our special fire safety goody bags! The assembly with Perkiomen Fire Company was the perfect way to reinforce everything we discussed and learned during our important fire safety week!
