Klem South Penguin Press
October Edition
Fall is here!
September flew by in the blink of an eye. We are so proud of our penguins, as they have truly embraced our CARE attributes and are settling in for an amazing school year. As a reminder- CARE stands for:
Cooperation
Accountability
Respect
Excellence
During the month of October, we will focus on showing CARE in the cafeteria. We welcome your partnership in speaking to your child(ren) about manners in our eating space. In particular, please consider the following talking points:
- Cleaning up after eating
- Using an inside voice
- Using manners with the monitors and peers
- Respecting peers during lunchtime talking
Thank you for your help. It is always good for children to hear common messages at home and at school.
If you drop your child off in the morning, please remember that an adult must accompany students in the lobby before the bell rings for the day.
Enjoy this crisp weather (after the next few days) and never hesitate to reach out if we can be of assistance to you.
Take care,
Martha End and Dr. Stephen MacAdam

New from Physical Education:
Reminder--5th grade Orienteering Field Trip is Friday, October 12th with a rain date of Wednesday, October 17th (rain date was incorrect on the paper that went home with students, but corrected on the emailed copy).
Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be outside the 1st part of October, weather permitting, doing orienteering in the backyard. Students may bring extra shoes and socks, or even wear rain boots! Sneakers are still a must in case we need to stay inside due to inclement weather. At the end of the month, students will be doing their fitness testing (not done for a report card grade). How is their muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility? We will find out during this 2nd part of our fitness unit!!

District Web Pages Offer Information on School Start Time Changes and Capital Improvement Project
Webster CSD is in the midst of sharing information about two important initiatives. BEGINNING IN FALL 2019, start times for elementary, middle and high schools will change. New start times will be approximately 8:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. for middle and high schools and 7:45 a.m. - 2:10 p.m. for elementary schools, plus or minus five minutes. The decision to move forward with this change is supported by extensive scientific research and recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and the New York State School Boards Association.
The district has made this announcement now to help all families prepare for the change coming up next fall. We will be using the newly launched Start Time Initiative web page to communicate important information relative to this change. We encourage you to visit http://www.websterschools.org/districtpage.cfm?pageid=1579 for more information, FAQs, and a place to share your feedback or ask additional questions you may have. Your board will also offer a check-in on the transition to new start times during its regular meeting on October 4 at 6:30 p.m., Spry MS auditorium.
In addition, the district is sharing information on the proposed $69.5 million capital improvement project that will be up for a district-wide vote on Tuesday, December 11. Included in this proposal are state-of-the-art media centers at all elementary schools, Willink Middle School, and Webster Schroeder High School. There are also proposed renovations to the technology education wing at Webster Thomas High School, improvements to playing fields at both high schools, and the purchase of the Town of Webster’s field at Basket Road. WCSD’s transportation center will also see improvements and expansion as part of this proposed project.
Please visit http://www.websterschools.org/districtpage.cfm?pageid=1582 for more information regarding the proposed capital improvement project. Be sure to check the website throughout the fall as it will continually be updated with additional details about the project.
