"I'm a great believer in luck, and I find that the harder I work, the more I have of it." Thomas Jefferson was one of the wealthiest slave owners. He had more than 200 slaves at Monticello. He needed slaves so that they could run the plantation at Monticello. This is why Thomas Jefferson needed many slaves.

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration Of Independence in July 4, 1776. This Document said that all people were created equal. In 1797 Thomas Jefferson became Vice President.
