A Note From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Things are moving full-speed ahead with construction at Clarks Creek! I mentioned last month that there would be additional updates forthcoming. There are three things that will be happening in the near future that I want to be sure you're aware of.

  1. Roof replacement/repair will begin before the end of the month. You may see workers in, around, and ON the building to complete this work.
  2. Plainfield Community Schools is building an Imagination Lab in the old natatorium space! This is HUGE news and will be a remarkable place for all elementary-aged students in Plainfield Community Schools. While this space will not open until fall of 2018, work will begin in the next few weeks. There will be much more about this project coming from the district in the near future. In the meantime, click the box below to read the story in the Hendricks County Flyer about the Imagination Lab.
  3. The playground is moving! To accommodate additional parking for the Imagination Lab and to take advantage of the track that already exists on our campus, our playground is going to be moving to the inside of the track! This move will not take place until right after school is out, but some site/prep work will begin in the space inside the track soon after spring break. Having the capacity to use the track during recess will be a great addition to the play activities for our kids, but we are also going to be adding a few new pieces of equipment, shown below.

As you can see, these are exciting times! I'll continue to provide more information as it comes up. Thanks, in advance, for working with us through any "growing pains" we may encounter through this process. We are blessed to be in a school district that conducts such extensive planning measures that allow projects like this to become a reality! Our lives will be filled with bulldozers, dump-trucks, and other work vehicles over the next year, but in the end, it will all be worth it, and our kids will be the beneficiaries!

Kind regards,
Mrs. Donovan

"Testing Season" Is Upon Us - Still!

We have completed round one of ISTEP, with round 2 coming up at the end of April. Next week, however, is the very important IREAD-3 assessment for all third grade students. This is a much shorter assessment than the ISTEP test, and it will be completed all in one day. Testing will take place on Tuesday, March 14th. We know our third graders have been working very hard all year and will do their best on this reading comprehension exam.

Here is what the Indiana Department of Education has to say about IREAD 3:

Purpose

The purpose of the Indiana Reading Evaluation And Determination (IREAD-3) assessment is to measure foundational reading standards through grade three. Based on the Indiana Academic Standards, IREAD-3 is a summative assessment that was developed in accordance with House Enrolled Act 1367 (also known as Public Law 109 in 2010), which "requires the evaluation of reading skills for students who are in grade three beginning in the Spring of 2012 to ensure that all students can read proficiently before moving on to grade four."

The 3rd Quarter PRIDE Convocation is Almost Here!

Friday, March 17th, will be our 3rd quarter PRIDE Convocation! Once again, this will begin at 2:30 in the gym. All parents are welcome to join the celebration of student accomplishments; those who will be honored with special awards will be notified ahead of time by the classroom teachers. If you plan to come, please register at the link below, and come in your red/white/blue ready to cheer for our awesome Clarks Creek students! Since this happens to be St. Patrick's Day, we'll do a "green day" on Thursday, March 16th.

One School, One Book

Thanks to all of you who have dedicated time each evening Monday - Thursday to read a chapter of our school-wide book, The Mouse and the Motorcycle! Don't forget, too, that if your weeks are too busy, you can use the weekend to catch up and students can still turn in their reading logs on Monday to qualify for reading rewards. Our students are enjoying many mouse and motorcycle themed decorations around the school and talking about the book with their classmates. They also love watching Ralph and his friend Cocoa hanging out in Town Hall. We have a very special activity coming up before spring break to go along with this book, too. Watch our social media channels for pictures on March 20th! Enjoy the rest of the book!

Reminder - Visiting for Lunch

We know that parents often want to come in and eat lunch with their children on special occasions. You are welcome to do so by following the usual school visit procedures - beginning with stopping in the office to sign in and get a visitor tag. Please be aware, though, that space in our cafeteria is currently VERY limited. Please be prepared for the possibility that you may have to eat in another location with your student when you arrive. Staff members working in the cafeteria will direct you, as needed.

Thank you so much to everyone who supported our Pennies for Patients efforts! Our students surpassed our goal by raising in more than $6,400! That's a whole lot of pennies! Way to go!

Reminder - Volunteer at Clarks Creek!

If you have some time to donate at Clarks Creek, be sure to complete a Volunteer Background Check and have it cleared prior to the first volunteer experience. This can take a couple of weeks, so be sure to plan ahead! These are also needed prior to chaperoning field trips, etc. The form can be found at http://www.plainfield.k12.in.us/o/clarks-creek-elementary-school/documents .

Another thing we ask all volunteers to complete annually is the Volunteer Confidentiality Form. This form is available in the school office and should also be completed before the first volunteer experience.

We appreciate the help of all of our volunteers! We couldn't do it without you!

Check out these pictures of a few of the things that have been going on over the last month! You can enlarge any of the pictures below by clicking on them.
