CHINESE with Mrs. Wang
Dear Dixie families,
May is the AAPI (Asian American / Pacific Islander) Heritage Month. All 3rd and 4th grade students participated in the 2nd Chinese National Poster Contest. The theme is Reflecting Harmony in Our Community. Through this project, students gain more understanding of identity, equality and inclusiveness. Five entries were submitted to the national level.
Students in 1st and 2nd grade learned a chant and a poem about spring in Chinese. They can recite the chant and poem. They also practice to write the chant and draw a picture associated with the chant.
Kindergarten students are learning about fruits. They can tell their preferences of fruits. Students in 3rd to 5th grade are learning about homes around the world. They explored different houses around the world. They can name and identify the rooms at a home. They will make a digital book about indoor activites.
Students in the STARTALK Chinese pre-camp activity/ after school club learned how to code and fly drones. They worked very hard to learn the new skills and were very excited to conduct the drones.
All students in kindergarten, 2nd grade and 5th grade took the district world language benchmark assessments -- speaking. It is a benchmark/proficiency assessment. The benchmark for kindergarten is Novice-Love (sing words), for 2nd grade -- Novice-Mid (phrases), and for 5th grade is Novice-High (simple sentences). The data are for the district to keep the record and measure student’s progress through the grade levels. If you want to know more about the assessments, please contact me.
FCPS STARTALK Chinese Language Camp will take place between June 13 to June 29 at Tates Creek Middle School. If your child has registered at the camp, you will receive the confirmation letter soon.
I am proud of all my students. They all worked very hard to learn Chinese language and culture. I also appreciate parents’ support. I wish you and your family a wonderful summer!
