This week in reading we will be working on the standard; RL 4.7 Make connections between the text of a story or drama and a visual or oral presentation of the text, identifying where each version reflects specific descriptions and directions in the text. We will be using these question stems to help us better understand the connections we are making;
1. How do the images, sounds, and movements contribute to a video or live presentation of a story that you have already read?
2. How does adding photo images or video help increase your understanding of the text?
3. What audio elements can you add to your presentation of that story, folktale, myth, or poem?
4. When reading this graphic novel, be sure to notice how the creator uses words and images to convey the story.
5. Think about how visual images influence your perspective.
6. Explain how images, sounds and movements contribute to the tone of the text. The students will be able to say “I can make connections between the written text of a story and oral presentation of the same text.” by the end of the week!
The students will be starting another novel this week from the same four novels we had for the last two weeks. They have been really enjoying these novels. Start a discussion with your child to see what they are reading!
For your viewing pleasure, here is a little video about reading and how important it is for students to enjoy reading outside of school as well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4gaEclAbIo&feature=youtu.be
