Newsletter 39 - 11 December 2019
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we come to the end of the school year in preparation for Christmas, may we be reminded of the peace and joy that the coming of Christ brings. At this time, may we also reflect on the many blessings we have received as a community, the friendships we have made and the challenges and achievements we have met and worked through during 2019.
This morning at our Graduation and Thanksgiving Mass, we congratulated our graduating students on their achievements and said farewell to them in readiness to their new adventures at secondary school.
We also said farewell to our Finance Officer, Mrs Jane Hansen on her retirement, who after twenty-two years of working with staff and families here at WCPS will be moving to New Zealand. Jane has been a tremendous asset and an absolutely wonderful colleague to work with and friend to many. We wish you much happiness on your new endeavours Jane and many Christmas blessings – you will be missed!
As mentioned at the ACM, we also farewell Mrs Tess Thompson, Mrs Jodie Kelly, Mrs Sarah Knox and Mrs Jen O’Halloran. The professionalism and generosity of each of these staff members has been amazing and I take this opportunity of thanking them for sharing so readily of their gifts and love of our children. Hopefully we will see you around the school in 2020.
At the same time, we are delighted to welcome the following teachers back in 2020: Miss Jessica Armenti, Mrs Vanessa Lord, Mrs Celeste de Rozario and Mrs Vicki Menagh, our new Finance Officer.
STAFF LUNCH: Thank you!
A huge thank you to our Year 2 parents for whipping up our delicious lunch time feast yesterday. The food was absolutely fabulous and all your effort and very hard work is very much appreciated by all. Thank you!
Our best wishes also to families leaving us at the end of this school year.On behalf of the staff, I take this opportunity of wishing everyone a wonderful holiday and may the many blessings that Christmas brings, be with you always.
Kind regards

City of Joondalup: Development application for grouped dwellings at Lot 248 Camberwarra Drive
As you would be aware a submission was submitted to the CoJ in regard to the above- mentioned proposal. The proposal has been considered and the development approved, subject to conditions. One of the main considerations for the school was the impact this development would have on verge parking bays. As a result, a condition of approval has been included which requires the modification of the bays along Barradine Way to ensure 17 of the 18 existing bays are maintained along the street.
School Banking
Could all banking parents please check they have the correct bank book? Two of our banking students are missing their bank books and may have been sent home to the wrong family.
Thanks

Dance and Drama Round-Up
Wow! What an incredible year we have had in the area of Drama and Dance. Term One we saw our Year 6 students take the school on a journey with the Stations of the Cross as a promenade-styled performance. Term Two with 88 boys and 62 girls, our Boys Dance performed their piece of "Pop and Lock" and the Girls Dance performed "Jai Ho!" at the Meraki Festival held at the PCEC. The Boys Dance won the Most Entertaining Performance and the Girls Dance won the Best Choreography! We finished off Term Two with our Kindy parents joining in, in dance classes and the PP-Yr 2 performed their musical inspired Dance Showcase.
Term Three, the Boys Dance Group won the Catholic Education LEAD Award in the category of Learning, which was incredibly exciting for all of us! The Christian Dance Group, Boys and Girls Dance also performed at Catholic Performing Arts Festival. The Christian Dance group won the overall Christian Dance Perpetual Shield with the piece "Rise Up", our first shield for WCPS! Congratulations to the girls who performed so beautifully.
Term Four... where do I begin! Our Year 3-6 students performed in the "Around the World" inspired Dance Showcase. Our superstars in both Dance Groups then performed on Telethon. How proud our community was to see 150 of our students dancing on TV, what a wonderful opportunity.
The 3-6 students then moved onto the unit of Drama with Performance Assessments of Christmas Plays, Improvisation Survivor and the Final Year 6 show using playbuilding and devising techniques.
I wanted to thank all of the parents who have helped throughout the year from costume prep, supervising at rehearsals, doing hair, providing food, driving students to and from performances and buying tickets to support our students. The list goes on! Thank you to Maree, Lee-Anne, Jo, Paula and Rachel for all of your help behind the scenes over the year. You have really made my job easier being my Parent Representatives. My wonderful Captains who have been incredible, Claire, Teisha, Olivia, Hamish, Ethan and Jaydn. I really couldn't do it without the incredible support network of our "Dance Family."
I am not sure we can top this year, however, I have already started working on 2020! Very excited for next years performances.
It is sad to see the Year 6's go as they have been an outstanding group! I wish them all the success for their future and hope that they continue involving themselves in the Arts.
Wishing our wonderful community a beautiful Christmas and New Year! See you for more Dance and Drama in 2020!

Whitty Dads
Whitty Dads have wound up 2019 with a great day at the Billy Cart Derby at Mawson Park 1st Dec. After getting together on several occasions with their Dads to build their Billy Carts, with some awesome paint jobs and designs resulting, we all got together at Mawson Park to run the carts down the hills and spend some great quality time together. Huge thanks to Barry Alport who used his talents and contacts to source the discounted materials for kits, which he designed himself. This was followed by organising building sessions at Bunnings Whitfords and Barry opening up his own home to Dads and their kids to finish off their racing creations.
Barry has been a big driver of Whitty Dads activities this year, also organising the super successful Bunnings BBQ in August, which sets Whitty Dads up with funds to run our events for Dads and their kids for 2019-20. This was a great fundraiser, but mainly an awesome community event for WCPS. Thanks to all the Dads, Mums and WCPS children who helped out on the day whether cooking, selling, setting up, packing up or lending equipment.
September saw the Whitty Dads Kindy Olympics, our first event devoted to newer families to the school. Joel Patterson organised this great fun day which was enjoyed by all. After running a super 2019 Dads and Kids Campout at Ern Halliday back in Feb, Joel is doing is all again Term 1 next year, 15-16 Feb 2020 at the 2020 Dads and Kids Campout when we are all back at Ern Halliday again for the slippery side, games, camping under the stars and spending time together with our friends and children. WCPS Fathers and Father figures, book your family ticket now at https://www.trybooking.com/BHDRS.
Whitty Dads would not be able to do what we do without the support of the whole WCPS community, but especially the P&F Association and the WCPS team. A big thanks for support all through this year, especially from Pina, Michelle, Lisa and Emma from the P&F and Tamara, Allison and Andrew De Maio from WCPS. Your backing and access to resources allows us to bring all the fun events to the school and help Dads and Kids at WCPS connect and contribute to our great community.
Watch out for more fun to come in 2019 from Whitty Dads and the Fathering Project.
Thanks for 2019!
Barry, Joel and Andrew – Whitty Dads Leaders!

Environmental and Sustainability Committee
The summer holidays offer a wonderful opportunity to spend time enjoying and appreciating nature as a family. Through spending time in nature, children not only engage all their senses, but learn to better regulate emotions, collaborate, socialise, gain self-confidence and build their resilience – qualities that will follow them into adulthood. Here are some ideas you could try out this summer: make a sand sculpture, create a cubby house, enjoy the waves while swimming, snorkelling or boogey boarding, explore the bush near your home, go geocaching, create a nature play journal, head outside with a magnifying glass, go camping, make leaf boats and float them on a lake, lay on the grass and star gaze, paint pictures with water on cement, make nature crafts, create a mud kitchen, plant a summer garden or pot plant.
P and F News
The P&F would like to thank the school community for another wonderful year. Your support and generosity has seen us achieve so much this year and it will continue over the holidays and in the new year.
A special thank you must go to Mrs Zelda Scafidas and the Year 2 parents for donating food and helping with the teachers lunch yesterday. The teachers were so grateful and I think they could feel the love from our community!
Lastly, we would like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a safe, restful and happy new year.
