YCMS Counseling through Connections
October - 2016
The power of one person. The power of one act of kindness.
Kindness is more than just making people feel good. I believe that kindness connects us as human beings, and brings us closer to the people and communities around us.
It is amazing how one, small outwardly act of kindness can create a cascade of positive responses. Not only does it help transform your own mood, but through it, you can help transfer your own happiness to the world around you. This act is greater than you and me; it creates a more positive community of kinder, more thoughtful individuals.
Today, I challenge you to do something without the intention of receiving “a return.” It can be anything from complimenting a stranger to writing a teacher a thank you note. Whatever it is, YOU, as the giver, will feel the richness of what you are offering to the world. For example, today, I sent a care package to a friend who is going through a tough time!
Have some fun with it; be creative!
I've got the power to... York Chester Middle Kindness Challenge
YCMS Accepts the Challenge and Celebrates the #PowerOfOne
Blue Shirt Day – Monday, October 3rd
Show your York Chester Cougar Pride and let’s Unite for kindness and compassion.
What are your true colors when it comes to bullying? If you care about kind and
compassionate schools and communities make your color BLUE on Blue Shirt Day. That’s the day everyone can come together—in schools, communities, and online—and send one large BLUEmessage of support, hope, and unity.
The Week of October 10th
Make friends with someone you don’t know at school throughout the week and we’ll all wear ribbons on the 10th supporting Rachel’s Challenge.
If you've ever been isolated from others at school or you were new at school and it took time to make friends, you know what it feels like to be left out. Or even if you were never isolated, imagine how it would feel.
Be a leader. Take action and don't let anyone at school be in isolation.
Wednesday, October 12th - Make a Difference Pledge Card Drive
The Week of October 17th - #PowerOfOne Door Contest
This year’s theme is #PowerOfOne and bonus points will go to the doors that use this logo in their designs. Students during connections should design doors that reflect Rachel’s Challenge of kindness and compassion. Judging will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 22nd. The class that wins will get doughnuts!!
Wednesday, October 26th - Kindness Mix it Up at Lunch Day
