Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Autumn Term 1 - Issue 1
We BELIEVE, so TOGETHER we ACHIEVE!
A word from Mr Broom
We had a wonderful singing assembly on Wednesday afternoon too. Our children are amazing singers and thoroughly enjoyed the acoustic rendition of 'Titanium' by David Guetta.
In key stage one, our children have been getting to know their new class teachers and friends and the phase is a buzz of excitement.
Our Early Years Team are now all in the main building and the collaboration between staff right across the unit is very strong.
Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be updating you on several changes that we will be making to improve learning outcomes for all our children. Once again, I thank you for your continued support.
Have a wonderful week ahead.
Mr Broom
New Routines
Classroom Moves
To help them to do this, we've moved some of our classrooms around. All classrooms are now paired with their neighbouring year group allowing the internal classroom doors to be opened, spreading learning across a wider range of children. Nursery and Reception now share the same space, increasing the adult support and opportunities for learning tasks.
We intend to turn the old Nursery block into a Family Learning Area, and our plans for this are underway. The Pool View room will be used only occasionally for small group work.
Morning Teacher Time
From next week, our teachers will have their planning and preparation time together each morning from 0845 to 0915. You'll still be able to catch them briefly before 0845 but more longer discussions will need to take place at the end of the school day. During this teacher planning time, our excellent teaching support staff will complete the register, deliver spelling, timetable activities, handwriting practice and 1:1 reading to all pupils.
Indoor Footwear
The purpose behind the decision is to simply reduce the learning time lost to changing footwear. At my previous school, I removed indoor footwear after the school was criticised by an inspector on the time being wasted. We worked out that the total time spent changing footwear added up to almost three complete weeks across the year.

Class Twitter
Online safeguarding is paramount for our children.
Twitter allows us to secure the posts we make so they are only visible by those who are accepted to follow. They are never shared with the general public. At some point next week, I'll be sending information on how to follow your child's class on Twitter. Hopefully, Twitter will provide a greater understanding of what is going on in school and serve as a talking point for when the children come home.
