Growing Successful Learners - Whakatipu Mātauranga
Matt's Message
Kia Ora Whānau
It was great to have the first of our formal assemblies last week together with the Motiti and Tūhua teams. It was made every more special by having the children who were receiving awards parents alongside us too. It has been a long time since we have had the opportunity to celebrate our tamariki together with Whānau.
Being new to the school I was very proud of the behaviour and engagement the children showed throughout the assemblies. It was great to be able to enjoy waiata and celebrate success with two awesome groups. I would like to acknowledge and thank the staff involved in each of the teams for their contributions to making the assembly great, but also acknowledge the effort and commitment they have shown to your children in term 1 with their learning that was shown through their presentations too.
Cross Country
This Friday provides us another opportunity to connect with our families with our school cross country. I'm certainly looking forward to being out with the kids and being involved in this day. Please ensure that you read the details below for times and timing of races. As I am the starter for the day, I can promise you that I won't start a race early - I will stick to the advertised times!
Learning Partnership Meetings
I would like to thank all of you who attended our Learning Partnership meetings in week two of this term. It was so great to again have parents in the school connecting kanohi ke te kanohi (face to face) with our teachers alongside your tamariki! I know our staff really valued these opportunities alongside you.
Front Carpark
Many of you will have seen the front carpark of the school has been stripped back to rubble. This is one of the projects that the Board and staff had identified as important and therefore worth doing. The front of our school is something we want to be proud of and the carpark being replaced with new concrete, the small wall being plastered and a new sign (see below) being installed. We all like to be proud of our school, and we want our children to also be proud and we felt that there was no better place to start than at the front of the school. We are looking forward to the concrete being poured in the next week and the sign coming a few weeks after that!.
Community Sponsorship Opportunities
I will be updating you all again before the end of the week with another couple of projects that the board and staff have identified that you as our community may like to contribute to through sponsorship. Keep an eye on your email later in the week for this information!
Teacher Only Day Friday Next Week
Next Friday is another of our planned NZEI teacher only days. On Friday our staff will be working with a facilitator from Physical Education NZ (PENZ) looking at our teaching programmes for sport and physical education. In the afternoon the staff will be working with me and working on a new piece of software that will support them in their classroom and also working with their children in the class.
We know that teacher only days can be a challenge for parents, however these days were part of our teachers collective employment agreement and something that as a school we have to provide for our staff. Early notice of this teacher only day has been out since late last term. Please note that this TOD rolls into Queens Birthday Monday Holiday.
I look forward to meeting and seeing many of you at the Cross Country on Friday.

Out of Zone Enrolments - Applications Close TODAY Wednesday 25th May
Kia Ora Whānau
Please see the attached image for information about our available out of zone enrolments in Year 0/1 for the remainder of 2022.
The reason for the availability of out of zone spaces is to begin to manage our roll number with our newly introduced school zone. The additional spaces will have the school reaching approx. 650 children at the end of 2022, which the MOE has designed the school to be at.
This will also mean that we will not have to reduce or lose as many teachers as predicted for 2023 which is a big consideration for the Board of Trustees currently.
We would welcome you to share this post with any people in the Pāpāmoa community who may wish for their children who turn 5 this year to start at Pāpāmoa Primary School.
Out of zone applications will close on Wednesday 25th May.
To apply for an out of zone space, please complete the form via the following link.
