The House that donates the most items will earn 100 house points.
Valentines Day at SCE
As a friendly reminder, SCE doesn't hold Valentine's Parties; instead, we participate in a service project! This is in our parent handbook. This year, will work together as a building to spread generosity through our service project. We will collect food to help support our school backpack program which helps provide food to students who need it. Please see the article above for more Information. Classroom teachers will communicate when and how valentines will be handled in the classroom. Below you will see the consistent building-wide guidelines.
Only valentines meeting these expectations will be passed out.
- If a teacher allows a decorated bag or box, it must fit in the student's backpack. Follow the directions given by your teacher.
- Absolutely no candy or any food items attached to valentines. Any food item will be sent back home.
Attendance Information
We wanted to begin sharing monthly some student building attendance with our Stone Creek Families. We want to share it with you and ask you to help us improve our daily student attendance. Please take a moment to look at how quickly the missed days add up. When your child isn't in class, he/she is missing out on instruction, and we miss having them at SCE.
The state of Missouri holds schools and districts accountable to MSIP Proportional Attendance rates. The MSIP goal for schools is 90%. We only have 76.99% of our students who have currently attended 90% or more of the time this school year. This means about a fourth of our students are missing more than 10% of school year. The graph in this article shows the percent of students in each proportional attendance range.
We want our students to stay home when they are ill. In our review of absences, here are ways we can improve our building's attendance rate:
- Come to school on time
- Stay all day
- Don't take vacations or go out of town on school time
- If you need to go to an appointment, make sure to come back or come in after the appointment is finished.
Teacher Requests-Due March 17, 2023
It is hard to believe we are already at the point in the year when we begin planning next year's class lists. We would like to explain our expectation for parent requests in class placement for the 2023-2024 school year.
- Parents need to submit a request on the Google Form by Friday, March 17. The form will be turned off after March 17 and requests will no longer be accepted.
- You may not request a teacher by name.
- Please describe the learning style of your child and what type of teacher you feel best matches your child's learning style.
- If there are other students you don't want your child placed with, you may request this. Please give the reason why these students shouldn't be placed together. This request will need to be made annually by a parent.
News From our Nurses
National Dental Month
Lifelong habits begin at home. Make dental health part of your daily routine and share these reminders with your whole family:
Brush your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, especially after breakfast and before bedtime.
Drinking water after eating also helps to clear your teeth of food particles.
Floss every day. An adult should help children under the age of eight to floss. Older children should be ready to floss on their own.
Limit the number of times you eat snacks, especially the sticky ones and long lasting ones.
Visit a dentist regularly for a routine checkup and a cleaning
Protect your teeth by wearing a mouthguard when playing sports.
Don’t forget to change your toothbrush regularly, and after an illness.
Sweet snack facts: Eating a lot of snacks with sugar may cause cavities. Every time you eat sugar, plaque in your mouth mixes with the sugar to make acid. The acid hurts the teeth and causes decay over time. This can be painful!
The school nurse can help you find a dental home for your family!
Should I Keep my Child Home From School?
Keep your child home if they have any of the following:
Fever (a temperature of 100.0 or greater). Keep student at home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without use of temperature reducing medications such as acetaminophen/ibuprofen.
Vomiting. Keep student at home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours.
Diarrhea. Keep student at home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours.
A rough night (for example, if your child was up all night coughing or having trouble breathing).
Pink eye
Strep throat: Student diagnosed with strep throat should be on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school
