Mountain Lions
February 2024
Notes from the Principal's Desk
Welcome 2024!
This information was previously shared but is important enough to to provide a reminder about winter weather, personal property, and attendance. If your child does not like the cold weather you may want to drop them closer to the start of the school day if they are not planning on eating breakfast in the cafeteria. Students who are dropped off at 7:40 will have plenty of time to walk to the class line up area before entering classes at 7:45. For student safety and supervision as well as honoring valuable teacher planning time students are not permitted in the hallways or classrooms prior to school starting. Exceptions are made on days in which the weather drops below freezing (32 degrees) or it is actively raining. It is very important that students dress for the cooler weather as classrooms are not always at optimal temperatures first thing in the morning. Be sure to write your students name on all jackets and sweaters so they are easier to locate.
We need your help in providing an optimal learning environment for students. TUSD is not responsible for any personal property such as cell phones, electronics, or toys. These items are not necessary and are often distractions from learning. If you chose to send a cell phone with your student it is important to know that they must remain out of sight and may not be used while on campus. Students who are feeling ill must follow procedures and be seen by the nurse. The nurse will contact the parent should a student need to go home. During school hours if you need to get a message to your student you may call the office at 908-4100 and we will get the message to your student. Student cell phones may not be used from the time they enter campus to the time they leave.
As a reminder it is incredibly important that students are at school ready to learn at 7:45 and remain until dismissal at 1:55 (12:55 on Wednesdays). Missing minutes quickly turn into hours which turn into days which can not be replaced. As always if your child has a fever, is throwing up, or has diarrhea they must remain at home until they are symptom free for 24 hours without medication. Please ensure you report all absences to Stephenie, our attendance clerk so we can excuse the absence. She can be reached at 520-908-4100.
Warm regards,
Principal Ramirez

Kindergarten Round Up
We are so excited that your kindergartener will be joining us in the fall of 2024!
Visit and learn about free all-day kindergarten at Maldonado Elementary School, home of the Mountain Lions. The benefits of early childhood education are numerous. One of the most important is that attending a quality kindergarten increases the probability of a child doing better in school and finishing high school.
Kindergarten provides your child the chance to:
· Gain exposure to new ideas and concepts
· Learn social skills by interacting with other children
· Develop self-awareness and respect for others
Cultivate a love of learning that lasts a lifetime
Maldonado has certified teachers, playgrounds that meet safety codes, and breakfast and lunch options. Additionally, TUSD offers transportation to and from school for eligible students.
