Parent Peek at the Week
Week of November 18th, 2019
In case you missed it.....
Body Break Wall
It's been so heart warming to see students coming to the Body Break Wall this week! Mrs. Sampson's favourite part is asking them when they are finished - how the wall helps them learn. Their answers are amazing! It can never hurt for all of us to be a little more active in our days.
Ms. Scott arranged for Kawartha Heights to welcome Archery Paralympian Alec Denys to our school this week. Mr. Denys joined Mrs. Rees’ class for Phys. Ed. Class to talk about his journey and support students in understanding spinal cord injuries. We even tried to move in a wheelchair. Thank you Mr. Denys!
Drama in the Snow
Mme Pilley had Mr. Guerin's Grade 4/5 class developing tasks, sharing instructions with their classmates and leading the activities in the snow. Snow drama - what a great way to learn!!

Some important information for this week....
Before/After School Care
Hello Kawartha Heights families,
My name is Kendyl Young and I am the site lead for the before and after school program run here at the school. I wanted to reach out and make it known that there is limited space available in the JKSK room if you possibly require care. If you are interested in enrolling your child(ren) in the program, please visit the online waitlist and add your child(ren) and I will contact you from there about a spot. Link for the online waitlist: www.ONEHSN.com/peterborough
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to myself or my team member Emily (JKSK Room Lead). You may find us before and after school every day, or you may email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or call/text (705-927-6350) the work phone.
This week will be a busy one, as all teachers will be offering every family the chance to come in for an interview - to review your child's successes so far this year, as well as discuss next learning steps. We look forward to meeting with you! If for any reason you are unable to make your scheduled time, we ask that you please contact the office or email your child's teacher directly.
Bully Prevention and Intervention Week
This week is Bully Prevention and Intervention Week. At Kawartha Heights, this is a learning area that we work on every week, but this week will be a little extra special. Our CYW Placement Student, Jessica Dearmer, along with our CYW Kelly Hiscock, have provided classroom teachers will a variety of different lesson and experience topics to explore this week. In addition, we will be collaboratively creating a school wide bulletin board - but you'll have to wait to see what that's all about!
On Thursday, November 21st, we will be recognizing bully prevention by participating in a spirit day called "Celebrate Unique You" Day. Students are encouraged to express themselves through their clothing, hair, etc. - and we will focus on discussions about celebrating every single individual, no matter what we are wearing, look like etc.We encourage each and every student and adult to express their own "uniqueness" on this special day!
Lost and Found
On Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday of this week, we'll be displaying all lost and found items on tables outside Mr. Davies' office during interview days . Please take a minute to stop by when you're in for your child's interview.... it's amazing some of the items we collect :)
Just a reminder that in the case of inclement weather, school bus cancellations are reported, usually by 7am, on local radio and the STSCO.ca website. We will also post on our school website, Twitter and Instagram. The school will remain open, but from time to time special events need to be postponed. Check our posted areas regularly for updates!

Just one more thing.....
As we begin Bully Prevention and Intervention Week, we are working hard with students to discuss the difference between peer conflict and bullying. Understanding and responding to peer conflict is a normal developmental milestone for children as they grow. Bullying however, is never okay. This graphic below may help you and your child to understand the key differences between the two.
