COMMERCIAL LAUNCH THE ART PROGRAM

This week we will launch several new commercials for Concord Community Schools. We have worked hard this year to create an educational system that will help our students shatter expectations. Our educators passionately believe in our students, and we know with the right systems and structures our YellowJackets will have the opportunity to create a future beyond our wildest dreams. The commercials will demonstrate how Concord has laid the foundational work for this system through the creation of our academic pathways, SEL competencies, and graduate profile.

Over the next year, we will be sharing more information about each of these new structures. The commercial we share today features our art pathway. This pathway has flourished at the high school under the guidance of Mr. Couling. Over the last two years, our families and students have been requesting art for our K-6 offerings, and we were so excited to answer the call. On Monday, May 17, we hired a teacher to take on the task of building an art program K-6. OUR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS GET ART NEXT YEAR!!!! GO JACKETS!!!!

MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL YELLOWJACKETS ART STUDNTS SHATTER EXPECTATIONS!!

Our students ``shattered expectations" on the Art Show 2021! The 7 judges were asked to give up to 25-1st, 25-2nd, and 25-3rd place ribbons (75 total max ribbons) per school. Concord received 26-1st, 26-2nd, and 26-3rd place ribbons (78 total ribbons) by request of the judges to give more than the max allowed. This is the second year in a row; last year they created an honorable mention and gave 10 additional awards to Concord.

You can view all of the work and the awards at the website below! Plus, Julie Evers speaks to our rock star teacher Brian Couling and his students in her JTV interview on the 2021 Virtual Art Show.

K-8 LOGO CONTEST WINNERS!

They were announced this morning in the K-8 Morning Announcements, so we can finally share the winners of our K-8 Logo Contest with our entire YellowJacket community! As you may have guessed, Mr. Arbuckle and Ms. Jessica couldn't choose just one winning submission... so they chose three winners (plus two Honorable Mention submissions)! We cannot wait to use these new logos on Concord swag next year!

ELEMENTARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL SEL CORNER

As you may have already heard, we are done with new ES Trait of the Week traits and MS Good Human Skills Challenge Activities for the year (awesome job, Jackets!). So, for the remainder of the year, we will be posting weekly feedback questions for students on the K-8 Morning Announcements about the Traits we've explored, and self-care suggestions on Fridays.

To kick off your weekend, here's a self-care recommendation to try:

JTV INTERVIEW

On Tuesday, I got the pleasure of speaking with Bart Hawley on JTV. It was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed talking about all of the ways our students, staff, and parents shatter expectations in Concord!

CHILD TAX CREDIT INFORMATION

Child Tax Credit

As a part of pandemic relief, there is a new Child Tax Credit that is worth $3,000 per year, per child ages 6-17 and $3,600 per year, per child under 6 years old for families making $150k/year or less. In addition, this includes families with no income at all (for which the “regular” tax credit is not available).

These funds will be paid out in regular payments directly to families. However, for families to be eligible, they MUST file their 2020 taxes. This is designed specifically to address child poverty and is expected to lower childhood poverty by at least 45%.

Please share this information widely with families participating in your programs.

Families may be eligible for $50 per month off of their high-speed internet. Please widely share the link below!

REPEATED UPDATES AND REMINDERS SECTION

CHANGING TRAFFIC PATTERNS

Thank you so much for your patience with the constantly changing traffic patterns. We are getting very short notice before major changes occur. We will do our best to get new information to you as quickly as possible.

We were told we will be able to use the high school entrance for the remainder of the year. There will be a day in the coming future where the pavers put down a layer of topcoat asphalt. When that occurs we will do our best to notify our families as that will change traffic patterns again. If anything changes, we will do our best to make sure you know.
