Notes From the Office
Holiday Adopt-A-Family
This has been a particularly tough and stressful year for many families, and we want to take some of that stress off your shoulders. We would love to spread some Spencer joy from our community to your family this holiday season. We have many gift cards to share with families. If interested, please click on this link. https://forms.gle/S97KyhBCkE8n31kd8
Report Cards
Elementary Report Cards will be accessible for all parents to view via Parent Connect on December 11th, 2020. This is what you’ll need to do to view Report Cards:
- Go to the BAS website www.brightonk12.com
- Scroll down to the bottom of the homepage
- Under Quick Links click on ParentConnect
- Enter your PIN and password
- If you haven’t viewed Parent Connect…click on the tab to log in and create your password
- If parents need ParentConnect account information, please send an email to: pc@brightonk12.com
- Once in your child(s) account go to Student Documents/Report Cards to view your child(s) report card.
One side note, you will notice no grade or markings for the art portion of the card. This is due to the vacancy with Spencer's art position. Your child had an art class taught by our building sub-Mr. Whitlow for the first trimester.
We now have a new full-time art teacher, Ms. Hiatt, who will be taking the reigns and collecting grades and indicating growth for the remainder of the year.
Welcome to Spencer, Ms. Hiatt!

Are Your Ears Ready?
Who likes transitions? I mean, when you think about it, who really likes to be told to stop and move on to something else? If transitions are difficult for your child, take a listen to this episode where I'll share some tips to help make those rough transitions smooth.

Picture Retake Day
Our Picture Retake Day has been rescheduled for January 11th! If you were not happy with your student's original photographs, have them bring the package in on Retake Day, and Lifetouch will retake the photo and resend the package you ordered. I have been told that we should be receiving order forms next week, please email me at berryl@brightonk12.com if you need one sent home with your student.
Morning Drop Off Reminder
Santa Night & Toys for Tots Drive-thru Event
Unfortunately we can not gather this year for our annual window painting event at Brighton Ford, but that doesn't mean we still can't have a little fun and get into the holiday spirit! Brighton Ford will host a drive-thru Santa Night, where they will collect toy donations for Toys for Tots, you'll get a candy cane and a chance to wave to Santa. Just bring in a new, unwrapped toy, let them know you are from Spencer and that will equal 1 vote in our friendly contest with the other Brighton elementary schools. The school with the most donations will receive $3000! The school in 2nd place with receive $1000, and the schools in 3rd and 4th place will each receive $500. Come on out to show your support for Spencer Elementary on Wednesday, December 16th from 6:00-8:00 PM!

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Hello from your Elementary Counselor, Mrs. McKiddy! With October being Anti-Bullying Awareness Month, we spoke with students about how to use our voice. We talked about how to support one another, how to stand up respectfully, and most importantly, how to do it in a way that makes everyone feel comfortable. Our theme of “Do Something” is carrying into the months of November and December: generosity and acts of kindness. If we can create a culture of kindness in our classrooms, our little learners are more likely to take risks, celebrate their individuality, and grow as people. To deepen this learning, create opportunities at home for spreading kindness and being generous. We know that in order to create a habit, we must create opportunities for repetition.
Let's Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.
More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!

PTO News
Food Drive
Thank you so much for the all of the contributions to our annual food drive. All items were picked up, counted and delivered to Bountiful Harvest on Wednesday, along with a $500 check from the PTO. The 3rd and 4th grades both exceeded our expectations and were so close in points, that we declared them both winners! Every student in the 3rd and 4th grades will receive a small prize from the PTO in the next few days. Thank you so much to our wonderful school family for all of the support.
Staff Holiday Treats
Usually, the PTO sponsors an annual Christmas cookie exchange for all of our Spencer staff. This year (due to covid), in lieu of this event, we will be sponsoring a special treat for our staff on the morning of December 17 to show our thanks and to send them off on a great holiday break. Pictures to follow!
AND...
PTO Presents... Punch for Presents!
WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR A FEW MORE GIFT CARD DONATIONS - Thank you so much to all who have already donated!
This year, the PTO is doing something different to celebrate our Spencer staff for the holidays. In lieu of our annual Holiday Cookie Exchange, the PTO presents "Punch for Presents." The goal, in addition to celebrating our staff, is to support our local Brighton businesses that have given so much to our Spencer community over the years by buying a gift card from your favorite local small business. (We have included some ideas in the Sign Up Genius.) We will then put each of those gift cards in a covered cup arranged in a fun holiday design for each of the staff to punch through to find their surprise. Each staff member will get a gift card. The gift card dollar amount is a suggestion. If you sign up for one, please make sure it is no less than what we are requesting, however, you are welcome to give more! The PTO will be donating various other gift cards as well (including one grand prize winner). Gift card donations can be dropped off on Katie or Kristie's porches this weekend (addresses in the sign up genius description). Let's show the awesome staff at Spencer how much they are appreciated for giving our children one of the greatest gifts of all, an education and loving environment to learn in. We are so lucky to have them all! Please contact Katie Tierney or Kristie Hopka with any questions.
