BHS School Fall Newsletter
School Year 2019-2020
Buses, Cars, and Students Drop Off & Pick Up
During the morning, buses will have the priority coming into BHS. The drive directly in front of BHS is closed to traffic from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and during the afternoon from 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
When dropping off your child, please pull all the way down past the Center entrance. Have your passengers gather up their belongings prior to getting out of the car. This will help speed up the drop-off process in the morning.
Speed limit on school grounds is 15 mph. Please follow the speed limit on all Brunswick Schools.
Student Information Forms
BHS Parents & Guardians
We have sent home letters, called, & emailed numerous reminders about completing the Student Information Form. It is essential that this is updated each year. If there is an emergency, we do not have current updated information. Please update ASAP. If not updated, students will not be able to purchase homecoming tickets, midwinter formal tickets, & parking passes. Directions on completing the form are below.
Student Information Form
Please CLICK HERE (https://update.bcsoh.org/ ) to update the Student Information Form for each child that attends BCSD. This form contains essential information for several entities of the district including the main office, the school nurse and the technology department to name a few. It is imperative that it be updated before the year begins.
The Username is the student’s 6 digit Student ID number.
The Password is the student’s birthdate (m/d/yyyy) plus the student’s middle name.
Note: There are no spaces between the birthdate and middle name and the first initial of the middle name is capitalized.
Note: If a student does not have a middle name, enter an asterisk (*) in place of the middle name.
Note: If a student has two middle names, enter both middle names with a space between the two middle names.
Note: If a student has a hyphen, apostrophe, or other special characters in the middle name, enter the special characters.
Example:
Username: 123456
Password: 8/23/2013Kathleen
If you have ANY questions about your Student Information Form, please contact your building secretary. Also, if you have difficulty with accessing the site, change the browser you are using or clear the cookies/cache, that usually helps.
PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE EMERGENCY CONTACTS UPDATED AND THAT YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE! STUDENTS WILL NOT BE RELEASED TO SOMEONE WHO IS NOT LISTED AS AN EMERGENCY CONTACT--see information below as to how this situation will be addressed at the schools.
Signing Out Students
- All students sign in and out of the Center Office.
- Parent, Guardian, or Emergency Contacts must provided picture identification.
- When completing your online SIF (Student Information Form), make sure to identify your emergency contacts if they will be picking up your child from school.
Emergency Pick Up
A phone call and completed form will be required if you need someone other than a person(s) listed in emergency contacts to pick your child up from school. First, call the school to request that a person not listed as an emergency contact needs to pick up your child. The building secretary will verify the number you are calling from as a number listed in our student system. Next, a link (to a form) will be sent via email to the email listed for the legal guardian. Once the legal guardian completes the form, the child may be picked up by the person indicated on the form. The building staff will verify the identity of the person picking up the child. Be sure the person picking up the child brings a driver’s license or a state ID.
Attendance & Truancy
Regular school attendance is an important ingredient in students’ academic success. Excessive absences interfere with students’ progress in mastering knowledge and skills necessary to graduate from high school and be prepared for higher education and the workforce. To support academic success for all students, the district will partner with students and their families to identify and reduce barriers to regular school attendance.
Updated district policies and procedures reflect the following changes in accordance with H.B. 410.
Excessive Absences
- Absent 38 or more hours in one school month with or without a legitimate excuse
- Absent 65 or more hours in one school year with or without a legitimate excuse
If a student reaches the threshold for excessive absences, the District is required to send home a letter notifying families of the absences.
EXAMPLE: A student will be considered to have excessive absences if he or she misses as few as two days of school a month for 6 months.
Habitual Truant
- Absent 30 or more consecutive hours without a legitimate excuse
- Absent 42 or more hours in one school month without a legitimate excuse
- Absent 72 or more hours in one school year without a legitimate excuse
If a student reaches the threshold for habitual truant, the District is required to develop and implement an Absence Intervention Plan. Parents/Guardians will be contacted to participate in the development of the Plan. If a student fails to participate or make satisfactory progress with the intervention process, or continues to miss school, the district is required to make a complaint against the parent/guardian and/or the student with Job & Family Services and/or Juvenile Court.
EXAMPLE: 5 consecutive unexcused days absent, 7 unexcused days absent in 1 month, or 12 unexcused days absent in a school year will require the student to be placed on an Absence Intervention Plan.
Attendance lines are by grade level. Please make sure to call the correct number!
ATTENDANCE LINES: You can call 24 hours a day and leave a message. Please include student name, grade level, reason and your name.

The Brunswick City School District partners with SaferSchools Ohio to provide our families with a free resource for keeping our schools safe. The anonymous tip line service helps alert local law enforcement to potential school safety crises. By calling or texting the statewide tip line (844-SAFEROH), you can report anything that is suspicious or endangering to you, your friends or your school.
