21st Century Teacher Librarians
A Librarian Networking Series
Professional Development and Networking 2016-2017
The 21st Century Teacher Librarian: A Librarian Networking series will be held again at Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV for the 2016-2017 school year. Teacher librarians, who have always paired books with readers, resources with research questions, and, more recently, problems with tools to solve them — should be the “go-to person” to support learners as they construct their knowledge. School librarians, with their specialized training and background in collecting, organizing, preserving, and disseminating information, must now teach their patrons—students and educators alike—to perform these tasks along with supporting the Pennsylvania Core in all disciplines.
Given the unprecedented quantity of information learners are exposed to, the teacher librarian’s role is more important than ever especially with the Pennsylvania Core Standards. Librarians help all students gain access to, evaluate, ethically use, create, share, and synthesize information.
Please consider sending your librarian/media specialist to these sessions to enhance their 21st century skills, further develop their involvement in the Core Standards, the Model Curriculum for Pennsylvania School Libraries, and support their collaboration with educators in your district and with other librarian/media specialists and educators throughout the tri-county area and across Pennsylvania.
