Who May Participate:
Any current or retired Alabama Certified Teacher or Administrator may participate in summer 2021 professional learning sessions.
To Register for UNA-RIC Professional Learning Sessions:
- Log on to the ALSDE PowerSchool site: www.alsde.truenorthlogic.com
- You may follow the links on each workshop to register or you may click on the Courses tab and enter the Section # to search for the session.
- Click the Register button.
Confirmation:
You will receive a confirmation email from PowerSchool. If a session is canceled, filled or if there is a change in anything, we will notify you by the email address you have in PowerSchool.
Participants will receive a link to the meeting approximately 30 minutes prior to the meeting start time. The email will be sent to the address that is currently listed in the participant’s PowerSchool profile. Because this is the only contact information we have for participants who enroll in the session, participants should ensure that their email address is correct in PowerSchool

School Safety: A Top Priority for a Safe Learning Environment
Understanding the causes of school violence is the best start in working to prevent it. While not every incident of school violence can necessarily be pinpointed down to one cause, there are many preventable factors at play that lead up to these incidents. We will explore these here in this category. In this session, we will explore the history of violence in our schools, the root causes, and what every school employee can do to help prevent it.

Arts Integration: Infusing Arts and Academic Standards
Only three percent of the nation's public elementary schools offer drama classes to their students, and only four percent offer dance. Your classroom doesn't have to do without the power of the arts! Dance, media arts, music, theatre and visual arts can empower your students to think and do without any expertise in an arts discipline on your part.

Bullying: What's New and What to Do
When people think about bullying many imagine something like this: one child yelling at another to give up their lunch money, but the reality of bullying is very different and unfortunately much more severe. Did you know that over 70% of students report that bullying is a problem at their school? And that about one out of ten middle school kids drop out of or change schools due to bullying? In this course, we will talk about the root causes of bullying, the acts that cause terror in our children every day, and how your school can implement and maintain an effective campaign to keep our children safe.

Drug Awareness and Prevention in Our Schools
Drug and Alcohol Abuse: Awareness and Prevention is a course that addresses the problems of drug abuse across the spectrum, including the latest thinking about prevention and awareness. This course provides an understanding of the origins and current status of drug use and includes special notations addressed to a person who may be experiencing problems with substance abuse. This curriculum is a valuable tool for teachers, parents, students, and workers, as well as someone seeking help for him or herself.

Student engagement is a "game-changer" in the classroom. Learning how to ENGAGE your students and ENHANCE the lessons you are already teaching...can EMPOWER student learning. This session will focus on simple ways you can implement technology to grow collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity in your classroom, regardless of what content area you teach. - The training event is based on the academic standards of the newest Alabama Courses of Study for English Language Arts.
- This four-day training has been designed to assist teachers with the alignment of the new ELA ACOS to the E3 lessons and curriculum. ***If you are interested in the general overview of the new ELA ACOS only, you may want to register for one of the Grades 9 – 12 sessions.
- Teachers who attend this training event will receive specialized training for grades 6 – 8 designed by expert educators for teachers of students of all ability levels; full access to rigorous classroom-ready lessons; vertical alignment across grade levels; and ongoing support from expert educators.

Reading Readiness - On-Demand - Pre-Recorded
Research has demonstrated the importance of phonological awareness, letter recognition, and oral language in the acquisition of reading and spelling skills. Learn foundational skills that are necessary to develop fluent readers and accurate spellers, and receive hands-on, multi-sensory activities to teach and reinforce these skills. This virtual class provides remote learning with real-time instruction from Neuhaus instructors.

- This is a Monday- Friday offering worth 30 hours credit

Neuhaus Coaching
Receive three (3) virtual coaching sessions to support your reading instruction using the Language Enrichment for Older Students curriculum during the upcoming school year.
The coaching staff at Neuhaus will assist as you apply what you have learned in your classroom to best fit the needs of your students and provide continued support.

MEGA Conference: July 12-16, 2021
Mark your calendars for MEGA Conference 2021, July 12-16, in Mobile, Alabama! MEGA Conference attendees will have opportunities to engage in meaningful discussions, participate in in-depth training sessions, and learn from leading experts in fields across the education spectrum. This year’s MEGA will be a hybrid of both virtual and in-person events. This is an exciting new feature that we hope will allow more statewide participation and provide an opportunity to offer more content than ever before, all while keeping your safety first. The conference will begin on Monday at 1:30 p.m. and will end on Friday at the conclusion of the morning sessions. Preliminary conference information with a listing of sessions and other conference details will be available on the website at http://bit.ly/MEGA21.
