LBES: Thursday Updates and News

Please read. :)

Why all the updates this week?

October is traditionally our busiest month as a school. In keeping up with history, this year is no different. When things do pop up, we want to make sure you are informed or reminded quickly rather than let them linger. Most information will come in the form of the weekly newsletter you receive on the weekends. Otherwise, you may get pop up emails or in this case, a digest of updates.

Kona Ice is FREE this Friday thanks to our PTA!!!

You are invited to our Practice Leadership Day on 10/31!

We are looking for 150 parents or guardians to participate in a practice Leadership Day experience for our kids before we have a large event for the state on November 7th. Every Leader in Me school has a Leadership Day to highlight the school's student leadership. We invite teachers, administrators, and student leaders from across the state and the tri-state area to visit and see what our system is all about.

We need 150 volunteers to come in and help us with a dress rehearsal of our leadership day. We need our students to feel comfortable when they welcome guests for the official day.

Our practice day will be held on October 31st. Doors will open at 8:45am. Our students will be practicing greeting guests, holding doors, passing out nametags and folders, guiding people to opening ceremony, running through the opening ceremony, serving breakfast, cleaning up from breakfast, guiding groups of 10 to classrooms and panels, touring the building with our guests, and facilitating the closing ceremony.

If you can participate, please sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/409054caaae22a64-practice

New Kindergarten Age Cutoff Date

A change in the birthday eligibility cutoff for Kentucky kindergarteners will take effect in the 2017-2018 school year. The new date for Kentucky students is August 1. Any child who turns 5 years old on or before August 1, can enroll in Boone County’s ½ day Kindergarten Program. This change affects student’s statewide.

Boone County’s Board of Education has a policy, per Senate Bill 24, that allows parents to request early-entrance for kindergarten, but children must exhibit high levels of academic, social and emotional aptitude based on a series of assessments. If a child does meet the necessary requirements for early admission, parents will be charged $3.000.00 tuition for the school year. The process for early-entrance must be completed before the last day of the 2016-2017 school year. Please contact the Boone County Board of Education, Christen Morgan at (859)-334-4466 or christen.morgan@boone.kyschools.us, if you have any questions.
